Using an ELISA approach, we demonstrate that recombinant human IL-12 (rhIL-12) binds strongly to an immobilized heparin-BSA complex. This binding is completely displaceable with soluble heparin, IC50 approximately 0.1 microg/ml, corresponding to approximately 10 nM. We conducted a systematic review, with MEDLINE and Cochrane Library data base searches and bibliographic reviews, of English-language reports describing therapy with low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH) in pregnancy. Low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) fragments have recently been proposed as antithrombotic drugs. Several fractions and fragments have been studied in human healthy volunteers: Enoxaparin (Lovenox) from Pharmuka, Fraxiparin from Choay, Fragmin from Kabi, LHN1 from Novo laboratories. The pharmacokinetics of LMWH are clearly different from those of unfractionated heparin as demonstrated by a small group of studies. In our laboratory, we undertook one study with enoxaparin. Results of the investigation of parameters of cell and humoral immunity and coagulogram in 63 patients with acute peritonitis have shown that thymalin when used solely or in combination with heparin facilitates quicker arrest of the pathological process, its clinical and laboratory symptoms. The combination of thymalin and heparin is indicated to elderly patients and in cases with higher risk of thromboformation.
