A prospective study was conducted among osteoporotic hip fracture in 2008. It was aimed to assess cost per quality adjusted life year (QALY) of hip fracture in the context of a developing country. The patients who were diagnosed as hip fracture and admitted to the orthopedic wards were included. Any pathological fractures or missing data were discarded from the analysis. This study was undertaken to evaluate the relation between hip fractures and nocturnal micturition habits in elderly men and women. A questionnaire survey was undertaken among 10,216 elderly subjects. The mean (+/-S.D.) ages of the men and women were 73.0+/-6.0 and 72.6+/-6.7 years, respectively. Nineteen patients who had hip arthroplasties for complications of internal fixation of intertrochanteric fractures were reviewed. There were 6 males and 13 females. The mean age was 64.1 years (range, 21-87 years) at the time of the fracture. The average interval from fracture to arthroplasty was 40.3 months (range, 2-288 months). Out of 224 patients with femoral neck fractures, 40 patients have been treated by ORIF with the dynamic hip screw, whereas 27 have been fixed by large cancellous bone screws and 148 femoral heads were replaced by a prosthesis. Between 1984 and 1986, 10 patients who sustained a femur fracture about a hip prosthesis were treated with open reduction and internal fixation using compression plating. Nine of the 10 fractures healed in an average time of 5 months. Other than one nonunion, no significant complications were noted. Femoral shaft fractures following hip arthroplasty can be difficult to manage, particularly in elderly patients. Nine patients were treated with open reduction and rigid internal fixation using cement augmentation for screw fixation in the distal shaft.
