UNLABELLED: Systemic mastocytosis is a rare, clonal mast cell disease neoplasm driven by the KIT D816V mutation in greater than 95% of cases. The complex clinical presentation of systemic mastocytosis can make diagnosis challenging. Treatment strategies often focus on management of symptoms, but many patients' symptoms are not well controlled on these regimens and have poor quality of life. We adapted a simple hydroxylamine-based indole assay to detect indole from stored vaginal swab specimens from women with and without bacterial vaginosis (BV). Women with BV had significantly higher vaginal indole levels compared with women without BV (6451.5 vs 5632.4 μM; P = 0.01), suggesting that indole-producing bacteria are a component of BV.

A retrospective chart survey of the clinical features of indolent adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATL) was conducted in the Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan. This study enrolled 24 smoldering-type ATLs, 10 favorable chronic-type ATLs, and 20 unfavorable chronic-type ATLs diagnosed between 2010 and 2018. Technical advances in diagnostic modalities have led to the characterization of indolent lymphoid disorders similar to the in situ lesions described in epithelial malignancies.
