14 patients suffering from early stage mycosis fungoides were treated with interferon alpha 2-a and PUVA/1 patient in stage I a, 3 patients in stage I b, 4 patients in stage II a and 6 patients in stage II b/during 3-21 months time course. Interferon alpha 2-a was administered 3 times a week, in escalating dose from 3 MU to 9 MU, determining the individual maximal tolerated dose. All of the patients responded well to the treatment. Essential thrombocythemia (ET) in pregnancy is associated with adverse perinatal outcome, which is likely due to thrombosis of the uteroplacental circulation. BACKGROUND: Ropeginterferon alfa-2b, a novel monopegylated interferon with improved pharmacokinetics, has emerged as a promising cytoreductive agent for managing polycythemia vera (PV). Despite increasing adoption, evidence synthesis of its efficacy and safety compared to standard care remains limited. The manuscript aimed to evaluate the efficacy of ropeginterferon alfa-2b in comparison to standard treatment options, including hydroxyurea and phlebotomy, in achieving complete hematologic response, partial molecular response (PMR), and reducing JAK2V617F allele burden in patients with PV.

We report the use of inhaled natural interleukin-2 in patients with metastatic disease. Six patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma received 100,000 units natural interleukin-2, 5 times per day by inhalation in addition to a 4-day cycle of intravenous natural interleukin-2 every 2 weeks and subcutaneous interferon 5 days per week. Response was clearly correlated with metastatic site. Distinct tumor burden and the poor condition of the patient did not impair success. Pulmonary metastases responded in 5 of 5 patients. INTRODUCTION: Combination therapy with pegylated interferon alpha (Peg-interferon) and ribavirin is currently the cornerstone of antiviral therapy for chronic hepatitis C. Monotherapy with Peg-interferon still is important for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B. With the advent of new therapies, protease inhibitors for chronic hepatitis C and nucleotide inhibitors for chronic hepatitis B, there remains a need for interferon-based therapies. The side effects of Peg-interferon are a main disadvantage and represent a stumbling block for many patients to enter and continue therapy.

We report two cases of polycythemia vera (PV) treated with ropeginterferon alfa-2b (ropeg-IFN) in which hematologic control was maintained without therapy after treatment discontinuation. The patients achieved complete response (CR) at 14 and 22 weeks after treatment initiation, respectively. Chronic neutrophilic leukemia (CNL) is a rare type of leukemia characterized by a proliferation mainly of mature neutrophils, elevated neutrophil-alkaline phosphatase activity, and no presence of the Philadelphia chromosome. During a 3-year period, 30 patients were referred for symptoms of vulvar pain characteristic of the vulvar vestibulitis syndrome. Colposcopic examination with a blue filter and pathologic biopsy revealed evidence of papillomavirus in 17 patients. Interferon alpha-2b recombinant was injected intradermally into the vestibule in a specific pattern three times weekly for 4 weeks. The safety and efficacy of intralesionally administered interferon alfa-2b were assessed in 11 patients suffering from condylomata acuminata for four to 10 months for whom application of podophyllum resin had proved unsuccessful. Three warts from each patient were injected with 10(6) IU interferon alfa-2b three times a week for three weeks. Treatment was followed by a 13 week observation period. Interferon alfa-2b treatment resulted in a highly significant (p less than 0.0001) reduction in the mean size of the treated warts, which decreased from an initial size of 29 mm2 to 2-3 mm2 by week 16.

Astrakhan fever is a new endemic rickettsiosis belonging to the group of tick-borne spotted fevers. Adjuvant use of interferons in basic treatment of Astrakhan fever elevates its efficacy. The maximal contribution of interferons can be reached at administration of alpha-2 and gamma-interferons in daily doses 15,000-25,000 and 1500-2500 IU/kg, respectively. The response is higher at early administration of the medication. Interferons induce side effects early in the course: intensification of hyperthermia and pains.
