Authors present two patients suffering from renal tuberculosis, which caused differential diagnostic problems. The first patient was examined because of fever and left flank pain. Computed tomography revealed renal shrinkage on the left side. Retrograde pyelography demonstrated ureteric stricture and dilated calices. Urine culture showed Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The objective of the study was to investigate the safety and efficacy of flexible ureteroscopy and holmium laser lithotripsy for the management of patients with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) and associated nephrolithiasis. Between 2005 and 2010, flexible ureteroscopic stone treatment was attempted in 13 patients with ADPKD. Two patients had bilateral renal stones. Prostatic urethral lift is a minimally invasive procedure used to improve the symptoms of benign prostatic enlargement. It utilizes the UroLift device to insert small implants through occlusive lateral lobes of the prostate, thereby creating an open anterior channel through the prostate. We describe a previously unreported complication of UroLift whereby a patient presented with loin pain post-procedure and was found to have a UroLift clip across the vesico-ureteric junction , leading to ureteric obstruction, hydronephrosis and calyceal rupture.

A 70-year-old male with urinary bladder carcinoma was admitted for follow-up. Retrograde pyelography demonstrated transfer of contrast medium into the left renal vein in two independent sessions. The absence of hematuria and a negative CT scan ruled out a classical veno-caliceal fistula. The presence of a veno-caliceal valve fistula into the left renal vein was hypothesized.

A 71-year-old female presented with left back pain at our hospital. She had had the same symptom about 1 year previously, but she had been presumed to have undergone stone passage because her symptom had disappeared. Real-time renal ultrasonographic scans were obtained of 204 subjects, comprising 159 pregnant and 45 control subjects. A classification of hydronephrosis based on calyceal diameters was established, and the overall incidence of hydronephrosis was found to be 90% on the right side and 67% on the left side. Calyceal diameters for both kidneys were found to increase gradually throughout pregnancy, the right more rapidly than the left. Neither parity nor a history of urinary tract problems was found to be relevant to the degree of dilatation.

Percutaneous nephrostomy procedures generally are safe. The associated mortality rate is approximately 0.04%, and the incidence of important complications is 5% (2-4). To minimize complications, certain precautions always should be followed. First, radiologists should perform a preprocedural evaluation of the patient, with correction of marked coagulopathy or thrombocytopenia before all but the most emergent procedures. Second, antibiotics should be administered routinely before nephrostomy drainage; the choice of antibiotics can be based on the specific patient's risk factors for bacteriuria.

A case of megacalycosis is described in a newborn with multiple anomalies and enlarged kidneys. Uroradiological studies, TAC, ultrasound and nuclear medicine studies were practiced. Urinary fistulas developed in 13 of 134 patients after renal transplantation. Bladder fistulas originating from the anterior suture line in 6 patients were satisfactorily managed by urethral or paravesical drainage. Fistulas arising from the donor ureter were best treated by surgical repair using the recipient's own ureter. Caliceal fistulas in 3 patients were successfully treated with nephrostomy drainage. A favorable outcome was achieved in 11 of the 13 patients, with closure of the fistula and preservation of renal function.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of our work is to present our experience about the use of flexible mini-ureteroscope in the diagnosis and therapy of some upper urinary tract diseases.
METHODS: We evaluated the data of 52 mini-ureteroscopy performed with 7.4 Fr instrument. The indications for ureteroscopy were: kidney stones (25 cases, 48.1%), filling defects (12 cases, 23.1%), positive cytology (5 cases, 9.6%), lateralising haematuria (8 casi, 15.4%), ureteropelvic junction obstruction (2 cases, 3.8%).

OBJECTIVE: The aim of the study was to evaluate the possible effects of calyceal choice for renal puncture under sonographic guidance on the outcomes of percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PNL).

This case report presents the first documented case of pyelic fusion with two sites of obstruction. The patient was diagnosed following antenatal presentation and the operative technique described in this case report is the only way by which the obstructions could be treated with a single procedure.
