Congenital defects of the lens are rare in the cat. In this report, two unrelated Siamese kittens, a four-month-old male and a six-month-old female, with microphakia are presented. Abnormally small lenses were associated with elongation and rupture of the ciliary processes, leading to lens subluxations and subsequent anterior luxations. To the authors' knowledge, this condition has been reported only once previously.

A 64-year-old male farmer diagnosed as lens subluxation, cataract, secondary glaucoma, iris tear, old trauma and lower eyelid ectropion underwent cataract extraction, intraocular lens suspension fixation and coreoplasty. Mild intermittent ophthalmic pain occurred from half a month after surgery, and suppurative endophthalmitis was diagnosed 23 days after surgery. Vitrectomy was performed. The specimen culture result was Nocardia cyriacigeorgica. Gatifloxacin ophthalmic gel was effective for the infection.

With the rise of popularity of phacoemulsification as the preferred surgical method for cataract extraction, there has been an increased incidence of posterior dislocation of lens fragments. The appropriate management of this complication both during and after cataract extraction is discussed in this review. It is suggested that vigorous attempts by the cataract surgeon to retrieve intravitreal lens fragments should be avoided. The authors analyse the results of 116 operations in which they performed anterior vitrectomy using the Berkeley's and Opticon vitrectomes. Operations of this type have been performed in cases of traumatic cataract, subluxated and luxated lenses. One removed also post-inflammatory membranes and the vitreous from the anterior chamber and from the area of the wound. The functional and anatomical results have to be acknowledged as satisfactory.

PATIENTS AND METHODS: We present a case series of four patients with spontaneous or traumatic anterior crystalline lens dislocation.
RESULTS: The technique included supine patient positioning, gentle pressure with a cotton swab on the peripheral cornea to guide the lens into the posterior chamber, and the use of a miotic agent afterward to prevent subsequent subluxation.
