In this work, we have prepared a nano-material modified pencil graphite electrode for the sensing of valproic acid (VA) by immobilization 3-aminopropyletriethoxy silane coated magnetic nanoparticles (APTES-MNPs) on the pencil graphite surface (PGE). Electrochemical studies indicated that the APTES-MNPs efficiently increased the electron transfer kinetics between VA and the electrode and the free NH2 groups of the APTES on the outer surface of magnetic nanoparticles can interact with carboxyl groups of VA. Based on this, we have proposed a sensitive, rapid and convenient electrochemical method

Method of highly sensitive registration of magnetic nanoparticles by their nonlinear magnetization is used in a novel sandwich-type immunoassay for detection of staphylococcal toxins in complex media of virtually any volume, with increasing sensitivity at higher sample volume. The signal is read out from the entire volume of a nontransparent 3D fiber structure employed as a solid phase, which provides large reaction surface, quick reagent mixing, as well as antigen immunofiltration directly in the course of the assay. The method has demonstrated near-linear dose-response curves within a wide r

There is a debate about the implications of the effect of nanoparticles or nanomaterials on edible plants and soil organisms. Earthworms have been used to evaluate soil quality, reproduction, survival, and other biochemical parameters when organisms are exposed to nanomaterials. Most studies have been performed in laboratory settings, and little has been studied under realistic conditions, especially when earthworms and corn plants share the same natural soil and organic matter space. The objective of this research was to evaluate concentrations of 10, 100, 200, 400, and 800 mg kg-1 of iron na

Iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPs) offer promise for drug delivery and imaging, but their vascular safety requires thorough evaluation. Hydroxyethyl starch (HES) is a clinically used, biocompatible polysaccharide with potential as a nanoparticle coating to improve vascular safety. We synthesized novel hydroxyethyl starch-coated IONPs (IONPs@HES) and assessed their properties and effects on human microvascular endothelial cells (HMEC-1) under basal and inflammatory conditions. IONPs@HES showed magnetite cores, near-neutral charge, and reduced magnetic saturation, supporting biocompatibility. They

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Bladder cancer (BC) often arises in an immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment that limits responses to immune checkpoint inhibitors. Magnetic hyperthermia therapy (MHT) can induce immunogenic cell death, but its value as an immunotherapeutic remains insufficient.
METHODS: We conjugated anti-programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) antibody (αPD-L1) with magnetite cationic liposomes (MCL) and developed αPD-L1@MCL for MHT in an MB49 murine subcutaneous BC model. Mice received a single or triple exposure of αPD-L1@MCL-mediated MHT (P-MHT) at 43 °C or 46 °C (n = 5 per group), th

In this paper, we present a study by computer simulation on superparamagnetic hyperthermia with CoFe2O4 ferrimagnetic nanoparticles coated with biocompatible gamma-cyclodextrins (γ-CDs) to be used in alternative cancer therapy with increased efficacy and non-toxicity. The specific loss power that leads to the heating of nanoparticles in superparamagnetic hyperthermia using CoFe2O4-γ-CDs was analyzed in detail depending on the size of the nanoparticles, the thickness of the γ-CDs layer on the nanoparticle surface, the amplitude and frequency of the alternating magnetic field, and the packing fr

Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) are commonly produced through wet-chemical methods that require high temperature and pressure and involve multiple synthesis steps. Our research group has developed an innovative, sustainable, and patented one-step aqueous synthesis operating at ambient temperature and pressure, enabling the direct production of SPIONs in suspension. In this work, we investigated the extension of this method to obtain polymer-coated SPIONs for biomedical imaging applications. Two water-soluble and biocompatible polymers-poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and poly(vi

This study has been carried out to extend the validation of an amino alcohol catalyst in the asymmetric transfer hydrogenation (ATH) of ketones. Previously, the catalyst was tested in asymmetric addition to several aromatic aldehydes with good to excellent results. After having optimized the reaction conditions and tested different amino residues, the best catalyst was tested in ATH of various aromatic ketones, leading to generally high yields (up to > 95%) and moderate to good enantioselectivities (ee 24%-69%). Moreover, considering the lack of examples of recoverable and reusable amino alcoh

Copper ferrite nanoparticles for use as MRI contrast agents were synthesized using two different methods. A novel microwave-assisted (MW) solvothermal method was developed and compared to a conventional 12-hour synthesis (Reflux) as an eco-friendlier approach. This innovative synthesis method successfully produced nanoparticles with enhanced properties compared to traditional ferrite materials. The nanoparticles' morphological and magnetic properties were evaluated and tested in in-vivo MRI studies. The results revealed both similarities and differences between the amine-functionalized copper

The spleen serves as a critical reservoir of immune cells that play a key role in chronic inflammation and malignancy. While migration of immune cells from the spleen to the tumor immune microenvironment has been described, the dynamics of this process are poorly understood. Tracking the in vivo dynamics could provide valuable insights for understanding tumor immune biology, as well as potentially improving immunotherapy-based treatment regimens. In this study, splenocytes were labeled with superparamagnetic iron oxide (SPIO) nanoparticles conjugated with protamine-indocyanine green (SPIOpICG)

This study employs an eco-friendly approach to synthesize superparamagnetic iron oxide (Fe3O4) nanoparticles (SPIO) using Aegle Marmelos (A. Marmelos) pulp extract as a surfactant as well as a reducing agent. The pulp extract from A. marmelos is medicinally employed to treat cholera, diabetes, skin infections, earaches, blood purification, and heart problems. Further, the XRD and TEM analyses confirmed the formation of SPIO nanoparticles with a cubic structure and crystallite sizes ranging from 5 to 12 nm. The FE-SEM showed that the SPIO displayed a uniform distribution with quasi-spherical mo

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Acute coronary syndrome caused by vulnerable plaque rupture or erosion is a leading cause of death worldwide. CD40 has been reported to be highly expressed in atherosclerotic plaques and closely related to plaque stability. Therefore, CD40 is expected to be a potential target for the molecular imaging of vulnerable plaques in atherosclerosis. We aimed to design a CD40-targeted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)/optical multimodal molecular imaging probe and explore its ability to detect and target vulnerable atherosclerotic plaques.
METHODS: CD40-Cy5.5 superparamagnetic iro

Multifunctional nanocarriers, specifically for tumor targeting and traceable features, have been increasingly considered in cancer therapies. Herein, a novel targeting agent (TA), tryptophan (TRP), was proposed for the synthesis of functionalized (3-aminopropyl) triethoxysilane-iron oxide nanoparticles using two methods, creating a smart drug delivery system (DDS). In one method, two-step, glutaraldehyde (GA) as a linker, bonded TRP and amino-functionalized magnetite, and in the second method, one step, TRP binding was carried out by (3-dimethyl aminopropyl)-N'-ethyl carbodiimide hydrochloride

Molecular imaging of the dopamine transporter (DAT) with Positron Emission Tomography (PET) or Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) has been widely used in studies of neurological and psychiatric disorders. Nevertheless, there is a great interest in expanding molecular imaging to include magnetic resonance technology, because of the superior spatial resolution this technology may provide. Here we present a magnetic nanoparticle (NP) that specifically targets dopaminergic neurons and allows DAT imaging with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The nanoparticle (namely, NP-DN) is comp

Magnetic nanoparticle hyperthermia (MNP-HT) has emerged as a promising non-invasive technique for targeted cancer therapy. This study presents a comprehensive computational analysis of the influence of urine volume on the efficacy of MNP-HT for the treatment of T1 non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). A two-dimensional axisymmetric finite element model was developed, coupling solid tissue heat transfer with intravesical fluid dynamics. Magnetite (Fe3O4) nanoparticles with a mean diameter of 19 nm were excited using an alternating magnetic field at a frequency of 100 kHz. Four clinically

Antimicrobial resistance and biofilm-associated infections increasingly undermine the efficacy of conventional antibiotic therapy, creating a need for localized treatments that combine complementary physical and chemical antibacterial mechanisms. Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) are particularly attractive because they can be magnetically targeted, surface-functionalized, imaged, and remotely activated using an alternating magnetic field (AMF). This Review critically examines SPION-mediated antibacterial magnetic hyperthermia, encompassing nanoparticle synthesis, control of

Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the etiological agent of human tuberculosis, is an intracellular pathogen responsible for one of the infectious diseases with highest mortality rates. Its ability to replicate inside alveolar macrophages and trigger the formation of granulomas, alongside the appearance of multidrug-resistant strains, impose the employment of drugs that exacerbate their toxic effects after the long therapies necessary to deal with the infection. As an alternative to conventional drugs, this work proposes the use of bacteriocin AS-48 immobilized on biomimetic magnetic nanoparticles (B

A versatile nano-delivery platform was reported to enhance the tumor suppression effect of chemotherapy by augmenting tumor cells' ferroptosis. The platform consists of pomegranate-like magnetic nanoparticles (rPAE@SPIONs) fabricated by encapsulating superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) within a reduced poly(β-amino ester)s-PEG amphiphilic copolymer (rPAE). The resulting platform exhibits several functionalities. Firstly, it promotes the doxorubicin (DOX) release by leveraging the mild hyperthermia generated by NIR irradiation. Secondly, it triggers ferroptosis in tumor cells, i
