Comparative study of changes in the airway dimensions following the treatment of Class II malocclusion patients with the twin-block and Seifi appliances.

BACKGROUND: Functional appliances are frequently used to stimulate mandibular growth in cases of Class II malocclusion with mandibular deficiency. Many studies have reported improved pharyngeal airway passage (PAP) dimensions following functional appliance therapy in children. OBJECTIVES: The present study aimed to assess changes in the airway dimensions following the treatment of Class II malocclusion patients with the twin-block and Seifi appliances. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Lateral cephalograms of 37 patients with Class II malocclusion and mandibular deficiency treated with the twin-block ap

[Treatment of dento-skeletal anomalies. Class II occlusion].

With the combination of orthodontics and oral surgery a skeletal distorelation can be treated with a predictable result. A prerequisite for this is a good mutual consultation, in which information for the patient has a central role. To guarantee this a seven-steps procedure is developed and described. Essential aspects of presurgical and postsurgical orthodontics are discussed. Possibilities of surgical correction are described.

Class II correction: Extraction or nonextraction?

The patient with a Class II malocclusion, proclination, or moderate crowding of the mandibular anterior teeth, and a moderate-to-low mandibular plane angle is a treatment-planning challenge. The records of 3 patients are presented. For 2 of them, extraction treatment was used to resolve the Class II malocclusion problem. Each of these patients was treated with the removal of maxillary first premolars and mandibular second premolars. The third patient was treated with Class II elastics without extractions. The clinician must weigh the pros and cons of each approach and decide which approach wil

Prevalence and patterns of tooth agenesis among malocclusion classes in a Japanese orthodontic population.

The purpose of the present study was to assess, in detail, the association between tooth agenesis (TA) and various sagittal skeletal malocclusion groups in a Japanese orthodontic population. One thousand and twenty patients were divided into skeletal Class I, II, or III malocclusion groups using the A point, nasion, and B point angle. TA was identified in each group using panoramic radiographs. Patients with class III malocclusion exhibited a significantly higher prevalence of third molar (M3) agenesis, bilateral and overall agenesis of the maxillary M3s than those patients with a class II mal

The Effect of Early Orthodontic Treatment on Long-Term Stability of Class II Malocclusions.

BACKGROUND: Class II malocclusions are a common dental issue characterized by the misalignment of the upper and lower teeth. Early orthodontic treatment is often considered to correct these malocclusions, but its long-term effectiveness remains unclear. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this study, we examined the impact of early orthodontic treatment on the long-term stability of Class II malocclusions. We conducted a retrospective analysis of dental records from a sample of 150 patients who had received early orthodontic treatment for Class II malocclusions. The treatment involved braces and other
