Significantly lower blood serum concentrations of triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4) accompanied by a significantly higher concentration of thyrotropin (TSH) have been found in workers exposed to the environmental presence of manganese, iron chromates and other agents as compared to the control group (differing with respect to the environmental exposure to manganese only).

We report a case of occupational allergic contact dermatitis from rhodium sulphate and cobalt chloride in a 29-year-old woman working in a goldsmith's workshop. The relevance and source of sensitization to these metals in our patient is described, and the literature on the subject reviewed.

It is a specific clinical picture with extensive soft tissue gas and swelling of the forearm. Usually, the clinical course is without any other symptoms. Therapy is not necessary because gas disappears in few days. The etiology of the disease is not clear. Gas can be generated by the chemical reaction between a metallic foreign body and tissue fluid. Spread of benzine evaporation has been considered as a possible source as well. The disease is very rare and its knowledge is important in differential diagnosis of gas gangrene.

This paper adopts a novel data-processing method of ECSA® based on TG/DSC-MS system to basically study the characteristics of release and conversion of fluorides and cyanides during heat treatment of the spent cathode carbon block (SCCB). Steelmaking slag has been utilized in shore protection and to improve ocean environments of sea bottom sediments in semi-enclosed areas and coastal regions. This is achieved by reducing dissolved sulphide concentration. In this study, a numerical model is proposed and developed using a Eulerian-Lagrangian model coupled with an ocean circulation model to compute advection-diffusion of dissolved sulphides and fluid-particle interactions between ocean circulation and steelmaking slag. Lesions of skeletal and dental fluorosis have been described recently in eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus). The present study further examined the epidemiology of skeletal fluorosis in this species. Bone fluoride concentrations were obtained from a range of skeletal sites of animals from a high (Portland Aluminium) and a low (Cape Bridgewater) fluoride environment in Victoria, Australia. Age, but not sex, affected the mean bone fluoride concentration of kangaroos. For a given age, bone fluoride concentrations were significantly higher in kangaroos from Portland than Cape Bridgewater.
