Presentation of four cases of keratinizing squamous metaplasia (KSM), two of the renal pelvis, one pyelocaliceal and one ureteral. Nephrouretetectomy was performed in all cases. All our patients showed good evolution. A review of the literature is made discussing all the etiological, diagnostic and therapeutical aspects of the condition. Its benign evolution is highlighted as well as the current need, once a better knowledge of the condition's natural history is available, of using a conservative approach.

Myeloproliferative disease may be associated with extramedullary hematopoiesis (EH). Clinically, however, the differential diagnosis of solid masses in these patients includes not only EH but also inflammatory lesions and malignant neoplasms, including granulocytic sarcoma. We present a case of tubular adenomatous metaplasia (nephrogenic adenoma) arising within a urethral diverticulum in a woman complaining of a vaginal mass with dyspareunia. This lesion, which uncommonly affects the urethra, may clinically manifest as a gynecologic condition and mimic a low-grade adenocarcinoma on pathologic assessment. Criteria for diagnosis and current concepts of pathogenesis are discussed. Our findings, including an immunocytochemical work-up, support the concept of a reactive metaplastic response rather than nephrogenic differentiation.

INTRODUCTION: Intraductal papilloma is a common benign breast lesion that typically presents with nipple discharge or a palpable mass. While apocrine metaplasia is frequently observed, sebaceous metaplasia is very rare in breast lesions, with only a few cases reported to date. We present a case of Warthin tumor (WT) exhibiting lipomatous metaplasia. This rare histopathological feature can mimic lipomatous lesions, particularly in hypocellular samples, and should be recognized as a potential diagnostic pitfall.
