Brucella abortus RB51 is an attenuated vaccine strain that has been most frequently used for bovine brucellosis. Brucella abortus S19 is a smooth strain used as live vaccine against bovine brucellosis. Smooth lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is responsible for its residual virulence and serological interference. Theiler's murine encephalomyelitis viruses, which are murine picornaviruses, can cause central nervous system inflammatory disease. Albino mice and rats have elevated dark-adapted thresholds compared to normally pigmented animals. The absolute dark-adapted incremental threshold for black mice is about 1.5 log units lower than the threshold for albino mice when measured by single-unit recordings from the superior colliculus. Salmonella enterica causes systemic diseases (typhoid and paratyphoid fever), nontyphoidal septicemia (NTS), and gastroenteritis in humans and other animals worldwide. MRL lpr/lpr (MRL/l) mice exhibit a disease similar to systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) in humans.
