Cutaneous myiasis is an infection most commonly caused globally by Dermatobia hominus , the human botfly, which is endemic to Central and South America. In North America, the most common cause of cutaneous myiasis is infestation with the larvae of Cuterebra , the North American botfly. The authors describe a 44-year-old man who presented with a 1-month history of intermittent, severe, boring pain along the side of his nose that progressed to swelling and redness along his right inferior orbital rim and lacrimal sac. CT imaging showed a rim-enhancing collection at the right medial canthus with …

Osteosarcoma is a tumour that can originate in any bone and is the most frequent malignant tumour of the skeleton. It typically develops close to the metaphyseal growth plates in the limbs' long bones. The three most prevalent places are the femur, tibia, and humerus. Additional locations include the pelvis, skull, and jaw. Diaphyseal osteosarcoma involves a smaller population and is highly uncommon. Conventional kinds of osteosarcoma, such as osteoblastic, chondroblastic, and fibroblastic types, as well as telangiectatic, multifocal, parosteal, and periosteal types, are some of the variations

Myiasis is caused by the presence of dipterous larvae in humans and animals. It is usually associated with poor hygienic conditions. A urologist rarely comes across myiasis. We report a case of myiasis around a recently placed nephrostomy tube. A 55-year-old male farmer from a rural area underwent right percutaneous nephrolithotomy. The procedure was terminated because of bradycardia and arrhythmia. There were residual calculi. A nephrostomy was kept. His relook nephroscopy was planned, but he was not willing. Hence, he was discharged with an indwelling nephrostomy tube. Two weeks later, he pr…

The infestation of the human body by maggots has been reported worldwide and occurs most commonly in people of lower socioeconomic status and poor personal hygiene. Urogenital is the rarest site of myiasis presentations. Here we report the case of a 20-year-old, sexually inactive female student who presented with a necrotic growth in the paraurethral region infested with numerous maggots. The lesion involved the urethra and the bladder base. She was treated with debridement and bladder irrigation. The cystoscopy and local examination performed 2 weeks after admission, confirmed the complete he…

Myiasis is caused by invasion of larvae stage of dipterans fly in living tissue of vertebrate host including human and animals. The most important family is Calliphoridae and included Calliphora, Lucilia, Chrysomyia and Cochliomyia genus. A 35-yr-old man with gastric cancer history referred to Golestan Hospital in Ahvaz Southwest of Iran in 2015. He was infected by nasal myiasis from Lucilia spp. in ICU. The genus of third larvae stage was identified by microscopic examination and culture of pupa. The population of flies inducing myiasis should be controlled in hospitals.

BACKGROUND: Cutaneous myiasis is the infestation of the skin by larvae (maggots) of the order Diptera (two winged). Being an imported and sporadic illness, furuncular myiasis often poses a diagnostic challenge to the treating physician. This traditionally endemic entity is being more frequently reported worldwide as 'vacation' disease in travellers returning from these regions. However, there is a paucity of large scale study, especially on individuals occupationally stationed for longer periods of time in these endemic geographic locations.
METHODS: Sixteen Indian male patients with cutaneou…

The authors describe a case of 47 years old patient who came to the department of ophthalmology with eye discomfort, ear bleeding and itching of both legs. The diagnosis of ophthalmomyiasis was made after an eye examination. Manual extraction of maggots from upper and lower fornix of the left eye was performed and symptomatic therapy was given. The patient was sent to otolaryngology and dermatology departments and MRI. The maggots were also found in both external auditory meatus and between the toes. MRI excluded affection of the deeper structures of the head. Improvement of the local conditio…

Furuncular myiasis caused by the larvae of the human botfly, Dermatobia hominis, is a common disease in tropical areas of Latin America and may therefore occur in travelers returning from that region. Outside the endemic areas, the diagnosis is often delayed because the disease is mistaken for a bacterial skin infection. Reported are two cases of furuncular myiasis in patients returning from Central and South America.

Myiasis is derived from the Greek word-"Myia", meaning "fly". The term was first introduced by Hope in 1840 and refers to the infestation of human beings with dipterous larvae (maggots). Presence of maggots on exposed parts is already known, but on covered parts like external genitalia it is very rare. We hereby describe a case of young unmarried female who presented with multiple sinuses over external genitalia along with maggots coming out of it.

Special care in dentistry : official publication of the American Association of Hospital Dentists, the Academy of Dentistry for the Handicapped, and the American Society for Geriatric Dentistry2013eng
Myiasis is a condition caused by the invasion of tissues by larvae of Diptera flies. This phenomenon is well documented in the skin especially among animals and people in tropical and subtropical areas. The condition causes extensive tissue destruction as the larvae, at least for a certain period, feed on the host's dead or living tissue, liquid body substances, or ingested food. Mouth breathing during sleep, poor oral hygiene, alcoholism, senility, mental disability, cerebral palsy, and hemiplegia may facilitate the development of myiasis. We present a case report of oral myiasis in a 22-year…

Most clinicians associate myiasis with travel to a tropical location. We report a case of endemic myiasis due to Cuterebra species to remind clinicians that myiasis can occur throughout North America.
