An efficient homogeneous catalytic oxidation (HCO) process based on tetramethylammonium hydroxide derived deep eutectic solvent (TMAH-DES) was designed to enable "lignin-first" biorefining. Compared to the other TMAH-DES, the TMAH-imidazole exhibited superior HCO performance. An aromatic monomer yield of 19.5% (71% of the theoretical value based on nitrobenzene oxidation) with a considerable cellulose (86.3%) and hemicellulose recovery (54.4%) was achieved under oxidation at a mild condition of 100℃ for 2 h using the TMAH-imidazole DES with a molar ratio of 3:7. One-pot reductive mono-N-alkylation of aniline and nitroarene derivatives using various aldehydes by Pd/C catalyst in aqueous 2-propanol solvent with ammonium formate as in situ hydrogen donor is illustrated. The reaction proceeded smoothly and selectively with excellent yield at room temperature. Our protocol presents a facile, economical, and environmentally benign alternative for reductive amination.

Sexually mature Alpk/AP (Wistar derived) rats were killed 5 days after a single oral dose of 50 mg/kg of the 1,2-, 1,3-, or 1,4-isomers of dinitrobenzene. Testis weight reductions accompanied by testicular lesions were observed in the animals dosed with 1,3-dinitrobenzene (1,3-DNB) while the 1,2- and 1,4-isomers were without effect on the testis. A suppressive effect of treatment with 8-methoxypsoralen (8-MOP) and long-wave ultraviolet light (PUVA) on the induction and elicitation of contact sensitivity to dinitrochlorbenzene was observed in guinea pigs. The mechanisms by which PUVA exerts its inhibitory effect seemed to be variable depending on the site and extent of the treatment. When PUVA was given at the induction site, only one treatment using topical 1% 8-MOP and 7,6 J/cm2 UVA is a small area was enough to inhibit sensitization, and the effect was long-lasting. This seemed to be caused by impairment of Langerhans cell function.

Normal guinea pigs parabiosed for 10 days with guinea pigs tolerant to DNCB-contact sensitivity became completely and permanently unresponsive when sensitized after parabiosis lasting 10 days and partially tolerant when sensitized after parabiosis lasting 2 days.
