Surgical treatment is a safe adjunct to the management of the child with osteogenesis imperfecta. Its objectives are to control fractures and correct deformities. It may significantly improve the functional status of the child. The long-range aim of bioscience is to determine and correct this genetic defect and thereby avoid the need for orthopedic methods of managements.

In order to assess the contribution of fundus examination to the differential diagnosis of acuqired optic neuropathy, five ophthalmologists viewed 163 fundus stereophotographs of nine disease entities as "unknowns." Glaucoma, central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO), and ischemic optic neuropathy (ION) were diagnosed by at least one observer with an accuracy above 80%. The remaining conditions (optic neuritis; compressive, traumatic, and hereditary optic neuropathies) were correctly identified with less than 50% accuracy. Retinal arteriolar attenuation and sheathing were most helpful in differe

The results from the dispensary follow-up and prophylactic treatment of 175 patients with gastric ulcer in the course of 3 to 7 years (62% of the patients 5 from to 7 years) are reported. Two thirds of the patients are enlisted in the dispensary system during the first year after the disease onset. The ulcer disappears in 53.57 per cent by the end of the third month from the beginning of the treatment and in 81.43 per cent during the first 6 months. By the end of the first year, the ulcer was not closed in 8.57 per cent of the patients, hence 14.85 per cent of them underwent an operation. Cont

Alterations of the retinal nerve fiber layer occur as a result of diseases affecting the anterior visual pathway. Optimal viewing conditions, familiarity with the appearance of the normal nerve fiber layer, precise focus, and a high index of suspicion are necessary for the ophthalmoscopic observation of pathologic alteration in the nerve fiber layer. The observer must learn to differentiate pseudodefects (reflexes) from true defects (areas of nerve fiber layer atrophy). Nerve fiber layer changes appear ophthalmoscopically as generalized attrition, slit defects, sector defects (all types of atr…
