Antigens derived from Trichinella spiralis were used to challenge, in vitro, sensitized jejunum from infected guinea-pigs while monitoring ion transport properties of the tissue. Antigen challenge resulted in dose-dependent increases in trans-epithelial electrical potential difference and short circuit current. Both antigen-stimulated electrical alterations and Schultz-Dale contractions were demonstrated in small intestinal tissue after the passive transfer of immune serum containing anti-trichinella homocytotropic antibodies.

Two antigenically distinct populations of rat antibodies to the 2,4-dinitrophenyl group (DNP) have been isolated by chromatography on DEAE-cellulose and named fraction 1 and fraction 3. Both fraction 1 and fraction 3 had sedimentation coefficients of 6.9S, similar hexosamine contents (1.04 and 0.89 per cent) and electrophoretic mobilities similar to the γ2- and γ1-immunoglobulins of guinea-pigs and mice. (Rosaceae) (RFRC) on mast cell-mediated allergic inflammation and studied the possible mechanism of action. Glycyrrhizin (18beta-glycyrrhetinic acid-3-O-beta-D-glucuronopyranosyl-(1 --> 2)-beta-D-glucuronide, GL) was transformed to 18beta-glycyrrhetinic acid-3-O-beta-D-glucuronide (GAMG) by Streptococcus LJ-22. The antiallergic activities of GL and GAMG was measured using a RBL cell assay system and contact hypersensitivity model mice. GAMG exhibited anti-allergic activity with IC50 values of 0.28 mM. According to traditional Asian philosophy, sochungryong-tang (S-Tang) is a prescription for treating exterior syndrome. The effects of opioid agonists and antagonists were investigated on humoral immune mechanisms in mice and rats. Opioid agonists like morphine, Leu-enkephalin, and Met-enkephalin, enhanced antigen-induced histamine release from mixed peritoneal cells of rats in vitro; this enhancement was effectively antagonized by naloxone, an opioid antagonist. Various inbred strains of rats presented differences in sensitivity to the induction of PCA reactions by mouse reaginic antibody. Hooded Lister rats were sensitized to DNP-ovalbumin. These rats showed a significant alteration in respiratory pattern when challenged with DNP-ovalbumin aerosol. The respiratory response was not produced by challenging sensitized rats with intragastric DNP-ovalbumin. The magnitude of the respiratory response did not correlate with the specific IgE concentration in the serum. A similar pattern of respiratory response was inducible in unsensitized rats by intravenous administration of IgE-rich sera.
