The authors report a potentiating effect of sodium glutamate on gastric secretion in subjects free of gastrointestinal diseases. Similar effect has been discovered in dogs. The effects of a novel CCK-B/gastrin receptor antagonist, S-0509, on gastric acid secretion and the healing of acetic acid ulcers in rats were examined. Ultrasound registration of changes in gallbladder volume by the method of cylinder sum allows reliable means of studying gallbladder contractility in response to pharmacological load. Cerucal increased this activity in chronics with gastroduodenitis and diabetes mellitus, pentagastrin reduced the gallbladder volume. In duodenal ulcer patients a single dose of dalargin dilated the gallbladder for a short time, while in course treatment did not influence it. Gastrocepin inhibited motor activity of gallbladder as well as corinfar.

In 50 patients with erosive gastritis the basic and the post-pentagastrin secretion of hydrochloric acid or glycoproteids has been studied. The results obtained have been compared with that in healthy subjects. No significant differences between the both groups investigated have been noted. It has been stated that chronic erosive gastritis could be associated with normal, elevated or lowered hydrochloric acid secretion. The results are of value with regard to the choice of treatment but remain without significance for diagnostics.

38 patients were found to have achlorhydria after maximal stimulation with pentagastrin and on multiple biopsies (atrophy of gastric mucosa). It was demonstrated that the sequence pH-antroreceptors-G cells-parietal cells-pH antroreceptors was interrupted already in mild or moderately severe superficial gastritis of the antral mucosa involving more than half of the antral surface. Reduction of specific functional epithelium is unlikely in this form of inflammation so that it is probably an effect of the pH receptors.

The influence of truncal vagotomy (TV), selective vagotomy (SV) and selective proximal vagotomy (SPV) with concomitant pylorus-preserving duodenoplasty (DP) on gastric secretion, stimulated by pentagastrin, was studied in chronic experiment on dogs with gastric fundus fistulas. SPV with pylorus-preserving DP causes the most prominent influence on neurohormonal phase of gastric secretion. After SPV and DP conduction in 345 patients the result was significantly better than after SPV with gastric drainage operation.
