Examining the impact of online rejection among emerging adults with borderline personality pathology: Development of a novel online group chat social rejection paradigm.

Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is characterized by emotional reactivity and interpersonal sensitivity, including greater emotional and cognitive reactivity to social rejection than controls. However, existing social rejection paradigms are not relevant to the particular social contexts that are increasingly relevant for adolescents and young adults (i.e., social media and online settings). This study examined emotional, parasympathetic, and cognitive responses to a novel online group chat social interaction task among emerging adults (18-24 years old) with a range of BPD pathology. Cons

Aggressivity among sons of substance-abusing fathers: association with psychiatric disorder in the father and son, paternal personality, pubertal development, and socioeconomic status.

An association between childhood aggression and risk for subsequent development of a substance abuse disorder is now well-accepted. In order to better understand the relationship between the presence of paternal substance abuse and aggression among their offspring, 10-12 year old sons of fathers with (n = 34) and without (n = 39) a history of a substance abuse disorder were contrasted on demographics, aggressivity, biological indices of reproductive maturation, and the presence of psychiatric diagnoses. In addition, personality factors, the potential for physical abuse, and psychiatric diagnos

A multidimensional, person-centered measure of menopausal symptom impact: Development and validation of the Menopause Impact Scale (MIS).

OBJECTIVES: To develop and validate the Menopause Impact Scale (MIS), a brief, person-centered measure of menopause-related symptom impact that is psychometrically robust across reproductive stages and suitable for digital implementation. STUDY DESIGN: Three sequential online studies with women aged 21-85 years in the United States (total N = 2915). Study 1 (n = 486) evaluated a 57-item pool using exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and reliability indices. Study 2 (n = 1429) used confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and item reduction to derive a brief scale. Study 3 (n = 1000) cross-validated t

Development of a human melanoma organoid-containing skin-on-a-chip model forin vitrodrug testing and personalized medicine.

Melanoma, an aggressive and lethal form of skin cancer, poses significant challenges in treatment because of its complex biological mechanisms and poor therapeutic response. However, the construction of biomimeticin vitromodels of melanoma with organs-on-a-chip micro-environment have not been reported. This study aimed to design and biofabricate a novel melanoma-containing skin-on-a-chip model for the evaluation of drug responses, and to investigate the effects of ultraviolet (UV) irradiation on melanoma progression. Our results demonstrated pronounced heterogeneity in the tumor immune microen

Development of a brief mindfulness-based intervention to improve well-being: A theory-, evidence- and person-based approach.

BACKGROUND: Brief mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) are shorter and less intensive than standard 8-week courses and could provide health and well-being benefits to participants while requiring fewer resources to implement at scale. However, brief MBIs are typically developed ad hoc and lack a clear rationale for the components they include. Our aim was to develop a brief person-centred MBI to improve well-being using a theory-, evidence- and person-based approach. METHODS: Mindfulness teachers and mindfulness course attendees were recruited to a mixed-methods online survey (N = 42) and a

Personalized resilience: how individual variability in brain-immune responses to stress influences the development of anxiety disorders.

Stress exposure has increased significantly, contributing to higher rates of anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder. However, individual responses to stress vary greatly, underscoring the concept of stress resilience. The acute stress response activates the amygdala, hippocampus, and prefrontal cortex, stimulating the HPA axis and triggering cortisol release, which typically restores balance through negative feedback mechanisms. In contrast, chronic stress or exposure to severe stressors leads to sustained HPA axis activation, amygdala hyperreactivity, and immune dysfunction,

Developing person-centred leadership practices: Health and social care leaders' experiences following an educational programme.

OBJECTIVE: Educational programmes aimed at nurturing person-centred leadership are requested to advance the implementation of person-centred care, however there is a scarcity of evaluations. This study aimed to explore health and social care leaders' experiences of changes in leadership practices following participation in an educational programme on person-centred leadership. DESIGN: A qualitative exploratory research approach, with individual interviews analysed using conventional content analysis, including an interpretative step linking categories to an overarching theme using three leade

Development of dynamic prediction models for venous thromboembolism recurrence and bleeding risks to guide personalized anticoagulant therapy.

BACKGROUND: Oral anticoagulants are commonly used for venous thromboembolism (VTE), but the optimal treatment duration remains uncertain, highlighting the need for personalized strategies based on individual risk. OBJECTIVES: We developed predictive models to assess VTE recurrence and major bleeding risks during and after anticoagulant treatment, incorporating time-varying data. METHODS: This study included 14,653 patients with VTE who received oral anticoagulants between July 2018 and December 2020 using a claims database. Two cohorts were constructed: an on-treatment cohort, segmented into

Development of a personal competency evaluation indicator system for tuberculosis health educators: a scoping review and Delphi study.

OBJECTIVE: To systematically synthesize evidence on the personal competency of tuberculosis (TB) health educators and to develop a scientifically robust and comprehensive evaluation indicator system. METHODS: A two-phase mixed-methods design was employed. Phase 1 involved a scoping review of seven databases (PubMed/MEDLINE, Web of Science, Scopus, Embase, CINAHL, ERIC, and the Cochrane Library) to identify competency-related literature on TB health educators, with no restrictions on publication date, language, or geographic setting. Extracted competency elements were synthesized into a prelim

Development and Psychometric Testing of the HIV Care Adherence Journey Instrument for Persons With HIV in the Philippines: A Methodological Study.

The HIV care adherence journey is a dynamic, complex phenomenon that represents more than counting the pills and clinic visits attended. Our study described the development and preliminary psychometric properties of a self-reported measure on the care adherence journey of persons with HIV (PWH). The Polit and Beck approach to measure development was used. A 36-item instrument was initially created and underwent two rounds of expert panel review. Psychometric testing was done with 302 PWH. The best-fitting model had a root-mean-square error of approximation of 0.088, a comparative fit index of

Developing person-centred care in hospices through the voice and leadership of nursing: lessons from the United Kingdom.

INTRODUCTION: Nursing leadership and the voice of nurses are crucial for developing person-centred care in hospices. Concerns have been raised that, as palliative care has evolved from its original vision and become more integrated into the mainstream healthcare system, it has increasingly become medicalised. This paper presents an emancipatory practice development programme aimed at enhancing the visibility and voice of nursing and nurse leadership to improve person-centred care in hospices across the United Kingdom. METHODS: The project was a 10-month collaborative education programme for n

Patient-Derived Bladder Cancer Organoids as a Valuable Tool for Understanding Tumor Biology and Developing Personalized Treatment.

Bladder cancer (BC) is a heterogeneous disease with high recurrence rates and variable treatment responses. To address these clinical challenges, the world's first bladder cancer patient-derived organoids (PDOs) biobank is established based on an Asian population. Thirty-six BC-PDOs are generated from 56 patients and demonstrated that the BC-PDOs can replicate the histological and genomic features of parental tumors. Drug screening tests are conducted with a broad spectrum of conventional chemotherapeutic and targeted therapy drugs and identified differential drug sensitivities among the BC-PD

Towards the standardisation of adult person-reported outcome domains in diabetes research: A Consensus Statement development panel.

Diabetes is unique among chronic diseases because clinical outcomes are intimately tied to how the person living with diabetes reacts to and implements treatment recommendations. It is further characterised by widespread social stigma, judgement and paternalism. This physical, social and psychological burden collectively influences self-management behaviours. It is widely recognised that the individual's perspective about the impact of trying to manage the disease and the burden that self-management confers must be addressed to achieve optimal health outcomes. Standardised, rigorous assessment

Delphi consensus study to develop guidelines for the management of adults with borderline personality disorder in the emergency department: a protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Clinicians caring for adults with borderline personality disorder (BPD) in acute settings such as the emergency department (ED) have little evidence/guidance to base decisions on. Specific/detailed guidance for managing BPD in the ED is needed given the morbidity and mortality risks, high service utilisation, unique challenges and risk of iatrogenic interventions. The primary objective of this study is to use a consensus method to develop a guideline for managing adults with BPD in the ED. This protocol and the key questions for the guideline were developed with the advice of peo

The Development of a New Patient-Reported Outcome Measure in Recessive Ataxias: The Person-Reported Ataxia Impact Scale.

Autosomal recessive cerebellar ataxias (ARCAs) are inherited neurological disorders that can affect both the central and peripheral nervous systems. To assess the effects of interventions according to the perception of people affected, patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) must be available. This paper presents the development process of the Person-Reported Ataxia Impact Scale (PRAIS), a new PROM in recessive ataxias, and the documentation of its content validity, interpretability, and construct validity (structural and discriminant). The development followed the PROMIS framework and the F
