The Mental Effect of Music on the Personal State in Terms of Depressive Personality Disorders.

The use of music as a basis for overcoming depressive personality disorders is possible only if the individual is ready for this therapy. Music therapy affects, first of all, the very structure of personality, its dynamic filling with current social and political tendencies, and allows to highlight problem areas, which are often viewed as complex in the structure of other psychological problems. The purpose of the current study was the determination and justification of the corresponding criteria in relation to this, as well as the methodology for diagnosing the studied phenomenon. The diagnos

Searching high and low for meaningful and replicable morphometric correlates of personality.

Recent personality neuroscience research in large samples suggests that personality traits tend to bear null-to-small relations to morphometric (i.e., brain structure) regions of interest (ROIs). In this preregistered, two-part study using Human Connectome Project data (N = 1,105), we address the possibility that these null-to-small relations are due, in part, to the "level" (i.e., hierarchical placement) of personality and/or morphometry examined. We used a Five-Factor Model framework and operationalized personality in terms of meta-traits, domains, facets, and items; we operationalized morph

Relationship between personality traits and perceived internalized stigma in bipolar patients and their treatment partners.

Internalized stigma of mental disorders has significant negative outcomes for patients with bipolar disorder and their families. The aim of this study is to evaluate the association between personality traits and internalized stigma of mental disorders in bipolar patients and their treatment partners. Five different questionnaires were utilized in this study: (1) Demographic data questionnaire, (2) Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory-III (MCMI-III) for personality traits, (3) Internalized Stigma of Mental Illness (ISMI) for stigma, (4) Self Report Manic Inventory (SRMI) for mania and (5) Cent

Association between brain-derived neurotrophic factor 196 G/A polymorphism and personality traits in healthy subjects.

We found that female, but not male, subjects with BDNF genotype A/A have high scores in reward dependence on TCI and high scores in extraversion on NEO-PI as compared with other genotypes (G/A or G/G), suggest …

Relationships of the Big Five facets and dysfunctional attitudes with depression.

There are two parallel lines of research on the relationship between personality and depression, one based on the Big Five personality model and one on Beck's cognitive theory of depression. However, no study has jointly examined the dimensions and facets of the Big Five and the dysfunctional attitudes of Beck's theory. This was the objective of the present study. The Revised NEO Personality Inventory (NEO PI-R), the Dysfunctional Attitude Scale (DAS-A), and the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-IA) were applied to 221 adults from the Spanish general population (53.7% females; mean age: 38.3 year…

Personality, substance of choice, and polysubstance involvement among substance dependent patients.

The authors compared the association of several personality traits, drug of choice, and polysubstance involvement in 325 individuals (44% male) receiving treatment for substance dependence on heroin, cocaine, and/or alcohol. Measures included the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-III-R, the MacAndrew Alcoholism Scale (MAC), the socialization scale of the California Psychological Inventory (CPI-Soc), the novelty seeking dimension of the Temperament and Character Inventory (TCI-NS), and the conscientiousness domain of the NEO Five-Factor Inventory (NEO-C). Influence of personality disorder on the treatment of panic disorder--comparison study.

UNLABELLED: Most clinicians tend to believe that the occurrence of the anxiety disorder in comorbidity with a personality disorder often leads to longer treatment, worsens the prognosis, and thus increasing treatment costs. The study is designed to compare the short-term effectiveness of combination of cognitive behavioral therapy and pharmacotherapy in patient suffering with panic disorder with and without personality disorder. METHOD: We compare the efficacy of 6th week therapeutic program and 6th week follow up in patients suffering with panic disorder and/or agoraphobia and comorbid perso

The mediating role of depression, anxiety, and sleep in the relationship between type D personality and asthma control: a cross-sectional study.

Type D personality, defined by the co-occurrence of negative affectivity and social inhibition, has been associated with poorer health outcomes in chronic diseases, including asthma. However, the psychological mechanisms underlying the relationship between Type D personality and asthma control remain unclear. This cross-sectional study included 150 adult patients with asthma recruited from a tertiary outpatient clinic. Participants completed the Asthma Control Test (ACT), Type D Personality Scale (DS-14), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), and Pittsburgh Sleep Quali

Differential diagnosis of personality disorders by the seven-factor model of temperament and character.

We used multiaxial structured interviews and questionnaires to evaluate the ability of self-reports on seven personality dimensions to predict independent interview diagnoses of DSM-III-R personality disorders. We studied 136 consecutive adult psychiatric inpatients, excluding those with psychosis, organic mental disorders, and severe agitation. Sixty-six patients had interview diagnoses of DSM-III-R personality disorders. Most also had mood disorders. We confirmed the hypotheses that self-reports of low self-directedness and cooperativeness strongly predicted the number of personality symptom

Dependent personality disorder associated with phobic avoidance in patients with panic disorder.

Eighty-eight panic disorder patients were divided into three groups according to the extent of their phobic avoidance (none, limited, or extensive). These groups were compared on three personality disorder instruments: the Structured Interview for DSM-III Personality Disorders, the Personality Diagnostic Questionnaire, and the Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory. Phobic patients were found to have significantly more dependent personality disorder and DSM-III third-cluster personality disorders than nonphobic patients. A subgroup of patients with social phobic symptoms was found to resemble th

Temperament and character profile of eating disorders: a controlled study with the Temperament and Character Inventory.

OBJECTIVE: The question whether anorexia nervosa (AN) and bulimia nervosa (BN) are different disorders or the extremes of a psychopathologic spectrum still has no definite answer. A way to face this problem is to examine the personality traits underlying these disorders. METHOD: The Temperament and Character Inventory (TCI) was administered to 141 anorectics (70 Restrictor and 71 Binge-purging), to 102 bulimics, and to 100 controls. The Temperament and Character Inventory main scales are Novelty Seeking, Harm Avoidance, Reward Dependence, Persistence, Self-Directedness, Cooperativeness, and S

Relationships between the MAPI and the MMPI in the assessment of adolescent psychopathology.

Although the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) and the Millon Adolescent Personality Inventory (MAPI) are both widely used in the clinical assessment of adolescents, no research has examined the interrelationship between these two instruments. We investigated MMPI and MAPI responses from 199 adolescents assessed at entrance to inpatient or outpatient psychiatric programs in Florida and Virginia. Univariate correlation analyses identified areas of significant associations between these measures, with coefficients ranging widely from -.70 to .72. Substantial diagnostic differenc…

Attachment and Therapeutic Alliance in Substance Use Disorders: Initial Findings for Treatment in the Therapeutic Community.

Background: There is convincing evidence that individuals suffering from Substance Use Disorder (SUD) often present insecure attachment patterns. In contrast, a strong therapeutic alliance in treatment of SUD has been found to lead to a more positive treatment outcome. However, insecure attachment has been observed to be linked with weaker therapeutic alliance strength. The primary aim of this explorative study was to gain initial insights regarding the influence of attachment and personality characteristics on therapeutic alliance and therapy motivation in SUD patients undergoing treatment at
