BACKGROUND: In recent years, with the development of society, children's daily exposure to screen time has gradually increased. Screen exposure and sedentary behavior have brought a host of harms to children's lives. The aim of this study was to explore the effects of screen exposure and sedentary behavior on precocious puberty and early development.

Precocious puberty (PP) in girls is common and mostly idiopathic due to precocious activation of the gonadotropic axis. In this review, we find it important to distinguish the normal variant of slightly early puberty from rapidly progressive cases. Abnormal harmony of puberty more likely warrants a pathological condition. In girls aged about eight years with confirmed idiopathic PP, observation for 3-6 months is reasonable in order to identify clinically progressive cases, who will benefit from intervention with an gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist.

OBJECTIVE: To determine whether phthalate exposure is associated with precocious puberty in girls.
STUDY DESIGN: This was a multicenter cross-sectional study in which 28 girls with central precocious puberty (CPP) and 28 age- and race-matched prepubertal females were enrolled. Nine phthalate metabolites and creatinine were measured in spot urine samples from these 56 children.

In this review several aspects of gonadotrophin releasing hormone agonists (GnRHa) treatment in central precocious puberty (CPP) are highlighted. These include issues of the definition of precocity, assessment of CPP and thelarche variants. Indications for treatment with GnRH agonists are discussed, not only in CPP but also in children with other reasons to suppress central activation, e.g. adopted or developmental retardation. Finally, outcome data are summarized, both on growth and psychosocial parameters.

Hypomelanosis of Ito has been associated with precocious puberty in two cases. This study reports a third case involving a female with hypomelanosis of Ito including severe mental retardation and seizure disorder with autonomic symptoms (gastroesophageal reflux and asthma).
