Validation of Gastrointestinal Quality of Life Index in Swedish for assessing the impact of gallstones on health-related quality of life.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of the present study was to validate a Swedish translation of the Gastrointestinal Quality of Life Index (GIQLI) questionnaire in patients with gallstone disease. METHODS: Sensitivity to change, internal consistency, and test-retest stability were tested in 187 consecutive patients who underwent planned cholecystectomy. Construct validity was assessed by comparing the GIQLI score with the bodily pain scale of SF-36 and four single-item questions in a separate group of 104 patients. RESULTS: A significant increase in all five domains as well as in the overall GIQLI score 6 …

The correlation between tinnitus-specific and quality of life questionnaires to assess the impact on the quality of life in tinnitus patients.

INTRODUCTION: Subjective tinnitus is often associated with a reduction in health-related quality of life (HRQoL). The HRQoL represents the impact of tinnitus on an individual's life by addressing the physical, social, and psychological domains of 1. A limited amount of studies has investigated the association between tinnitus and HRQoL questionnaires. The aim of this study was to examine the correlation between tinnitus-specific and HRQoL questionnaires in order to shorten fulfilling questionnaires, as it is often time-consuming. MATERIAL AND METHOD: Eighty-five patients with tinnitus as prim…

Development, reliability, and validity of the quality of life scale for insomnia: a health-related quality of life instrument for insomnia.

BACKGROUND: Insomnia is a quality of life (QOL) disorder complicated by various mental or physical daytime dysfunctions in addition to nocturnal insomnia symptoms. This study aimed to develop and examine the reliability and validity of a self-administered scale that can sensitively and easily assess QOL disturbances in patients with insomnia. METHODS: From 122 patients with primary insomnia (mean age 53.8 ± 17.1 years), 11 items correlated with sleep-related clinical indices were extracted and designated the QOL Scale for insomnia (QOL-I). The QOL-I reliability and validity were evaluated. R…

The Quality in Quality of Life in Parkinson's Disease: A Qualitative Meta-Synthesis.

BACKGROUND: Quality of life (QoL) is known to be impaired in people with Parkinson's disease (PwPD). Not surprisingly, a considerable effort of health interventions is aimed at maintaining or improving QoL. Yet, little is known about its determinants from a PwPD perspective to inform person-centered health care interventions. OBJECTIVES: This systematic review aims to overcome this information gap by synthesizing existing evidence on factors associated with PwPD' self-perceived QoL. METHODS: We searched six electronic databases (MEDLINE, EMBASE, PsycINFO, CINAHL, Web of Science, Cochrane Lib…

Residential care in hospital and in the community--quality of care and quality of life.

BACKGROUND: The reduction of beds in long-stay hospitals has led to concerns over the quality of care offered to the remaining residents as well as that provided in the community. This study seeks to compare the quality of care and quality of life (reported satisfaction) from residents in both types of setting. METHOD: A cross-sectional comparison was made of community residential homes and hospital wards drawn randomly from lists provided by local authorities in the outer London area. Samples were drawn from all the main provider types (local authority, housing association, private and joint…

Unraveling the quality-of-life network: how activities of daily living are embedded in the multidimensional quality of life after stroke.

BACKGROUND: Quality of Life (QoL) after stroke is a multidimensional construct, yet its internal interactive architecture and how objective functional capacity, specifically Activities of Daily Living (ADL), embeds within this subjective network remain poorly understood. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to delineate the interdependent network structure of post-stroke quality of life domains and to investigate the specific role of ADL within this system. METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, a sample of 451 stroke survivors was recruited. Psychometric network analysis was conducted on the 12 dom…

The pediatric quality of life inventory: measuring pediatric health-related quality of life from the perspective of children and their parents.

Health-related quality of life (HRQOL) has been recognized as an important outcome, some contend the most important outcome for children's health care interventions. The PedsQL Measurement Model was designed as a modular approach to measuring pediatric health-related quality of life, developed to integrate the relative merits of generic and disease-specific approaches. We suggest that part of the process of improving the quality of health care includes measuring HRQOL outcomes from the perspective of children and their parents on a routine basis, consistent with a consumer-based health care sy…

Quality of Life Assessment in Non-melanoma Skin Cancers and Comparison of the Quality of Life Between Psoriasis and Vitiligo Patients.

Objective Despite the increase in incidence of non-melanoma skin cancers (NMSC), deaths are relatively rare. The goal of treatment is to prevent the recurrence of the disease and to increase the quality of life (QoL). The QoL and the cost of treatment are becoming more important treatment goals, as nowadays NMSC are rarely life-threatening. This study aims to assess and compare the QoL in patients with NMSC, psoriasis, and vitiligo using three validated QoL instruments. Methods A total of 150 patients were included in this study, with 50 patients each diagnosed with NMSC, psoriasis, and vitili…
