Mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) is the most common type of malignant neoplasm in the minor salivary gland. The hard palate is a frequently involved site of MEC. The treatment of low-grade MEC on the hard palate is wide local resection with a tumor-free margin. In the present case, the maxillary defect was reconstructed using a buccal fat pad (BFP) flap, followed by application of 4-hexylresorcinol (4HR) ointment for 2 weeks. The grafted BFP successfully covered the tumor resection defect without tension and demonstrated complete re-epithelialization without any complications.

Rhinophyma is a disfiguring soft-tissue hypertrophy of the nose. It is an uncommon disease that primarily affects Caucasian men in the fifth to seventh decades of life. Nine cases from the authors' series and a comparison of results following various treatment modalities are presented. Eight of the patients were Caucasian and one was African American. Excision of the diseased tissue with a scalpel or Goulian dermatome using loupe magnification provided the safest means of preserving the underlying sebaceous gland fundi that permit spontaneous re-epithelialization with the least scarring.

In 43 eyes of 40 patients, the therapeutic effects of a self-dissolving hydrophilic collagen contact lens were investigated. Epithelial defects of any source, lamellar perforating corneal injuries, and trophic sterile corneal ulcers were defined as indications for the use of the lens. Collagen contact lenses were applied with biodegradation times of 6, 24, and 72 h. All patients tolerated the lens well, and no adverse reactions to the collagen material were observed. In all diseases where the lens was applied, re-epithelialization was found to be relatively fast.
