Effect of silver diamine fluoride application on the microtensile bond strength of three commonly used restorative materials in primary teeth: An ultrastructural study.

INTRODUCTION: Caries in primary teeth rapidly advances owing to its thin structure, thereby requiring restoration. However, restorations often fail due to various causes such as secondary caries and reduced microtensile bond strength (μTBS), which calls for the use of antimicrobial agents such as silver diamine fluoride (SDF). AIM: This study aims to measure and analyse the effect of SDF application on the μTBS of three regularly used restorative materials to dentin of primary teeth as well as compare the types of bond failure interfaces under SEM. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study comprised

A case report of allergic reaction with acute facial swelling: a rare complication of dental acrylic resin.

Resin components, such as methyl methacrylate (MMA) can cause allergic contact dermatitis (ACD). Allergic reactions to resin are usually delayed. Only a few studies have reported dental resin allergy with acute symptoms. Here, a case of ACD with acute facial swelling after dental treatment using resin material is reported. A 55-year-old woman with a history of periungual inflammation when using gel nail polish had repeated episodes of facial swelling after dental treatment with resin material. The resin temporary crown was removed, and symptoms were alleviated with antihistamines and corticost

Is zirconium or stainless steel the most suitable crown material for less dentin stress in endodontically treated teeth?

BACKGROUND: Stainless steel crowns (SSCs), which have been used frequently in the treatment of first permanent molars in children until now, has become less applicable due to its poor aesthetic appearance. Zirconia crowns (ZCs) have become more popular due to their aesthetic advantage. However, stress transmission of ZCs to dental tissues under occlusal forces in endodontically treated teeth has not been described. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to compare the stress distribution of different crown materials (ZCS, SSCs) and adhesive materials on dentin in endodontically treated permanen

In vitro microleakage of dentin adhesives.

This in vitro study measured the microleakage of current dentin bonding agents and glass-ionomer bases. Freshly extracted human molars were prepared to a flat surface, and dentin adhesives and composite resins were applied in a plastic matrix. Samples were stored in water at 37 degrees C, thermocycled, stained with AgNO3, embedded in epoxy resin, and sectioned for evaluation of stain penetration at the composite resin/tooth interface. The reliability index of the dentin adhesives varied significantly between materials. The enamel control had essentially no microleakage, and the aluminum oxalat

Differences in birch tar composition are explained by adhesive function in the central European Iron Age.

Birch bark tar is the most widely documented adhesive in prehistoric Europe. More recent periods attest to a diversification in terms of the materials used as adhesives and their application. Some studies have shown that conifer resins and beeswax were added to produce compound adhesives. For the Iron Age, no comparative large-scale studies have been conducted to provide a wider perspective on adhesive technologies. To address this issue, we identify adhesive substances from the Iron Age in north-eastern France. We applied organic residue analysis to 65 samples from 16 archaeological sites. Th

In vitro performance of an autocured universal adhesive system in bonding to dentin.

BACKGROUND: The successful integration of resin-based dental adhesives significantly impacts restorative dentistry, providing efficient and aesthetically pleasing caries treatments. Among various adhesives, one-step self-etching adhesives (1-SEAs) have gained popularity due to their simplicity and short application time. However, concerns have been raised regarding their bonding performance and marginal adaptation characteristics, which differ from two-step self-etching adhesives (2-SEAs) and three-step etch-and-rinse adhesives. Additionally, light-cured bonding materials may encounter challen
