The absolute configurations of four resorcylic acid lactones (RALs), paecilomycins J-M (1-3 and 5), were assigned by Time-Dependent Density-Functional Theory (TDDFT) calculations of their electronic circular dichroism (CD) spectra. The previously reported structure 4 for paecilomycin M was found to be incorrect and should be changed to structure 5. BACKGROUND: Glucocorticoids (GC)-induced osteoporosis (GIOP) is the most common cause of secondary osteoporosis, which leads to an increased risk of fracture in patients. The inhibition of the osteoblast effect is one of the main pathological characteristics of GIOP, but without effective drugs on treatment.

Results are reported of rhinophyma treated by argon laser. The therapy is assumed to be based on two features: first, selective coagulation of the blood capillaries which cause redness of the nose and which feed the hypertrophic regions; second, direct coagulation shrinkage of the hypertrophic connective tissue. The chronic toxicity of 2,4-toluenediamine (2,4-TDA) alone or in conbination with a hair dye complex (2,5-toluenediamine, p-phenylenediamine, and resorcinol) was studied in Swiss-Webster mice of both sexes by a skin-painting technique.
