The idiopathic esophageal rupture, Boerhaave syndrome, is very rare disease. Early diagnosis and treatment will produce good clinical course. Ruptures of the patellar tendon are less often observed compared to those of the Achilles or quadriceps tendon. A bilateral rupture is a rarity. Steroid medications or a variety of systemic diseases are associated with spontaneous tendon ruptures. Less often traumatic rupture is the result of severe overloading of the extensor mechanism of the knee. We report on a 60-year-old female without an obvious trauma, systemic disease or medication who suffered a spontaneous bilateral patellar tendon rupture.

Spontaneous bilateral quadriceps tendon ruptures are uncommon. We present a 30-year-old man with end-stage renal failure, who sustained this injury, and subsequently had surgical repair of both tendons on separate occasions. He has since regained full range of movement of both knees.

BACKGROUND: Splenic rupture in the newborn is a rare complication in erythroblastosis fetalis. There are no reports of splenic rupture in the fetus affected by hemolytic disease of the newborn.
CASE: A 41-year-old gravida 3, para 2-0-0-2 with severe rhesus alloimmunization was managed with serial intrauterine transfusions resulting in fetal death after the fourth procedure. Iatrogenic injuries of the trachea are rare. We report a case of tracheobronchial rupture in a 77-year-old woman after emergency intubation. Early bronchoscopy showed a rupture of the posterior wall of the trachea into the right main bronchus with a total length of 9.5 cm. A right thoracotomy was performed and the tracheal rupture was managed successfully by primary suture. Surgical treatment and possible causes of this lesion are discussed with reference to the literature.

A series of 8 patients with spontaneous rupture of the esophagus is analysed. Correct diagnosis is difficult. The time lapse between the rupture and diagnosis nevertheless seems to be the most important single factor in the outlook for treatment of spontaneous rupture of the esophagus. Early primary closure of the tear and good drainage of the mediastinum and pleural cavity give the best results in such cases. Sometimes a conservative management should be advocated for the treatment of esophageal perforations.

Continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) is associated with various problems, including damage to the CAPD catheter. We encountered catheter rupture around the titanium adaptor in a patient who had been on CAPD for 7 years. The area near the adaptor generally suffers damage secondary to deterioration of the silicon composing the catheter.
