OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to examine the links between primary psychopathic traits and driving behavior on the one hand, and driving anger expression on the other hand, through the specific contribution of empathy, impulsiveness, and sensation seeking, in a sample of French driving offenders.
METHODS: One thousand six hundred and eighty-six driving offenders completed a paper-and-pencil questionnaire during 110 drivers' rehabilitation programs.
RESULTS: Primary psychopathic traits were positively associated with violations and aggressive driving anger expression, and negatively as

Objective Central nervous system dysfunction associated with myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME) has been suggested to be the main cause of chronic fatigue syndrome. In animal models of chronic fatigue, minocycline was reported to act as a suppressor of neural inflammation. Minocycline may thus exert favorable therapeutic effects in patients with ME. Methods Oral minocycline (100 mg×2 on the first day, followed by 100 mg/day for 41 days) was administered to 100 patients with ME. The performance status score (0-9), orthostatic intolerance during the 10-min standing test, neurologic disequilibrium, a

Proprioceptive mechanoreceptors provide neural feedback for position in space and are critical for three-dimensional interaction. Proprioception is decreased with osteoarthritis of the knees, which leads to increased risk of falling. As the prevalence of osteoarthritis increases so does the need for total knee arthroplasty (TKA), and knowing the effect of TKA on proprioception is essential. This article reviews the literature regarding proprioception and its relationship to balance, aging, osteoarthritis, and the effect of TKA on proprioception. Knee arthroplasty involving retention of the cru

The purpose of our study was to evaluate the presence of anatomical and functional damage to the afferent and sensorial fibres using the Neurometer CPT test. A questionnaire regarding pain was sent to 300 women who had undergone surgery six months earlier. Out of 300 patients 67 did not respond; 105 experienced no pain; while 128 felt pain. One hundred and twenty-eight women were divided into two groups: mastectomy with reconstruction and simple mastectomy. The intensity of pain at T0 in women with reconstruction was significantly higher; at T4, on the other hand, was lesser and there was no s

Somatosensory experience is an important component of emotion, playing a prominent role in many traditional emotion theories. Nonetheless, and despite the extensive literature on the influence of individual differences in emotional processing, the relation between personality traits and emotion-related somatosensation has received little attention. Here, we addressed this question in a large sample of healthy individuals through the "bodily maps of emotion" behavioural paradigm, in which participants indicated the location and extent of their body sensations for the 6 basic and 4 additional so

PURPOSE: To investigate the association between great auricular nerve (GAN) sacrifice during parotidectomy and postoperative sensory disturbance.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients who underwent parotidectomy between November 2016 and May 2020 at a single academic institution were included in this retrospective chart review. Operative notes were reviewed to determine incidence of GAN sacrifice. Prevalence of patient-reported sensory complaints in the GAN distribution and time to spontaneous resolution of symptoms were assessed.
RESULTS: Of 305 parotidectomy patients, 111 (36.4%) endorsed compla

Tourette syndrome (TS) is a neurological disorder of childhood onset that is characterised by the occurrence of motor and vocal tics. TS is associated with cortical-striatal-thalamic-cortical circuit [CSTC] dysfunction and hyper-excitability of cortical limbic and motor regions that are thought to lead to the occurrence of tics. Importantly, individuals with TS often report that their tics are preceded by 'premonitory sensory/urge phenomena' (PU) that are described as uncomfortable bodily sensations that precede the execution of a tic and are experienced as a strong urge for motor discharge. W

After stroke, the causes of balance disorders include motor disorders, sensory loss, perceptual deficits and altered spatial cognition. This review focuses on motor strategies for postural control after stroke. Weight-bearing asymmetry, smaller surface of stability, increased sway, body tilting and sometimes pushing syndrome are observed. Weakness and sensory impairments account only for some of these disturbances; altered postural reactions and anticipated postural adjustments as well as abnormal synergistic muscular activation play an important part. These disorders are often linked to cogni

Children with hemiplegic cerebral palsy (HCP) exhibit long-term functional deficits. One of the most debilitating is the loss of prehension since this may impair functional independence. This loss of prehension could be partly due to sensory deficits. Identifying the underlying causes of prehension deficits and their potential link with sensory disorders is important to better adapt neurorehabilitation. Here we provide an overview of precision grip and sensory impairments in individuals with HCP, and the relation between them, in order to determine whether the sensory impairments influence the

Subfascial placement of implants was introduced 3 years ago. Collected data reveal very promising short-term and long-term results in comparison with subglandular and subpectoral positioned implants. The clinical experiences of 69 breast augmentations in the subfascial position are reported. The indications for this technique are proposed. The incidence of complications is described from clinical experiences and compared with that for other methods. From January of 1998 through May of 2002, 328 patients underwent periareolar augmentation mammaplasty; 105 patients had a subglandular mammaplasty

Presented is a case of postcentral infarction in a 70-year-old woman, which manifested as sensory disorders localized at the distal portion of the right lower extremity. Sensory disorders were characterized by the disturbances of discriminative sensation. Elemental senses were nearly normal. MRI revealed cerebral infarction localized at the superior portion of the postcentral gyrus and medial surface of the parietal lobe and the paracentral lobule of the left cerebral hemisphere. Carotid echography demonstrated stenotic lesions of the bilateral internal carotid arteries, suggesting that infarc

The patient was a 72-year-old man who had a history of subtotal gastrectomy for gastric ulcer at age of 37 years. He had no familial history of hereditary disorders. In 1980 he noticed mild ataxic gait which exaggerated while he closed eyes. The symptoms increased gradually, and four years later he noticed hypoesthesia of his soles. In 1983 he was admitted to the National Center Hospital for Mental, Nervous and Muscular Disorders for the first time. Neurological examination revealed dysarthria, ataxic gait, disturbance of coordination to a slight degree, and muscle strength of the upper and lo
