Emotionally charged pictorial materials are frequently used in phobia research, but no existing standardized picture database is dedicated to the study of different phobias. The present work describes the results of two independent studies through which we sought to develop and validate this type of database-a Set of Fear Inducing Pictures (SFIP). In Study 1, 270 fear-relevant and 130 neutral stimuli were rated for fear, arousal, and valence by four groups of participants; small-animal (N = 34), blood/injection (N = 26), social-fearful (N = 35), and nonfearful participants (N = 22). The result

INTRODUCTION: In Brazil, more than 3500 children with congenital Zika syndrome (CZS) face difficulties participating in activities of daily living, which may be aggravated by health emergencies, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Participation could be defined as the individual's involvement in daily life situations, and participation restrictions are problems that may arise in involvement in everyday situations.
AIM: To explore the daily lives of children with CZS during the COVID-19 pandemic using photographic narratives captured by mothers and discuss possible strategies to improve participati

Aim of this research was to develop and validate a time-efficient, ecologically valid self-report questionnaire measuring executive functions in healthy adults, grounded in the unity/diversity framework of Miyake (i.e., inhibition, updating, shifting). Across a pre-study and three main studies (Ntotal = 1.574), an initial 55-item pool was refined to a final 15-item set. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses (Studies 1-3) revealed, while the data did not support the expected three-factor model, a stable five-factor structure with the factors flexibility, focusing, inhibition, adaptation,

BackgroundFatigue is a prevalent and complex condition with significant impacts on well-being. Existing fatigue assessments often lack comprehensiveness or practicality for general population studies.MethodsThis study validated the REST Questionnaire, a novel fatigue assessment tool, in a sample of 268 adults. Psychometric properties, including internal consistency and construct validity, were evaluated. REST scores were correlated with WHO-5 well-being, BMI, self-rated health, and chronic conditions. Exploratory factor analysis identified underlying dimensions of fatigue.ResultsThe REST Quest

Bertalan Petho passed away in the Spring of 2020. The genius investigator was an enthusiastic and dedicated follower of Karl Leonhard, one of the German psychiatrists, who developed his own nosology which remained largely hidden from broad recognition. Bertalan Petho verified the validity and supplemented the Leonhard nosology: e.g. completed their "premorbid" personality concept and entered some psychosocial criteria in the etiology of the endogenous psychoses. His results and treatises were published in English and German in numerous and renowned periodicals. Summarized studies emerged in bo

Previous work examining the extent to which individuals seek alcohol to enhance positive experiences (reward drinking) or relieve aversive states (relief drinking) has shown that reward/relief drinking predicts response to naltrexone and acamprosate treatment for alcohol use disorder. Yet, various measures of reward/relief drinking have been used in prior research, and the comparative psychometric properties of these measures are unknown. Evaluating and comparing the psychometric properties of these reward/relief drinking measures could identify measures with the most promise for translating p

PURPOSE: We aimed to evaluate the construct validity of the Eating Assessment Tool (EAT-10) by determining its dimensionality, rating scale integrity, item-person match, precision and relationship with the degree of airway invasion and functional oral intake.
METHODS: We conducted a retrospective analysis of patients' EAT-10 scores. We used the Rasch rating scale model. We investigated correlations between the EAT-10 and scores on the Penetration-Aspiration Scale (PAS) and Functional Oral Intake Scale (FOIS).
RESULTS: The median score of the EAT-10 from 127 patients was 16 of 40 (range 0-40)

This study examines the validity of the Personality Assessment Inventory-Adolescent (PAI-A; Morey) in assessing callous-unemotional (CU) traits within two independent samples of at-risk adolescents from a residential intervention program. The study tests the extent to which CU traits are represented within PAI-A scales with respect to empirically- or theoretically-related indicators, such as antisociality, aggression, low warmth, low social connectedness, and subdued internalizing psychopathology. The PAI-A substantive scales statistically accounted for an average of 55.0% of the variance in t

Use of non-invasive brain stimulation methods (NIBS) has become a common approach to study social processing in addition to behavioural, imaging and lesion studies. However, research using NIBS to investigate social processing faces challenges. Overcoming these is important to allow valid and reliable interpretation of findings in neurotypical cohorts, but also to allow us to tailor NIBS protocols to atypical groups with social difficulties. In this review, we consider the utility of brain stimulation as a technique to study and modulate social processing. We also discuss challenges that face

Response interruption and redirection (RIRD) is a commonly evaluated intervention for reducing stereotypy, a core feature of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Although RIRD has been recognized as an evidence-based practice, increasing emphasis on neurodiversity affirming and contextually grounded intervention has highlighted the need to reexamine both the methodological rigor of the literature and the conditions under which RIRD is appropriate. This systematic review evaluated the quality and ethical contextualization of published RIRD studies by applying the What Works Clearinghouse (WWC) singl

The development and validation of the Social Phobia Scale (SPS) and the Social Interaction Anxiety Scale (SIAS) two companion measures for assessing social phobia fears is described. The SPS assesses fear of being scrutinised during routine activities (eating, drinking, writing, etc.), while the SIAS assesses fear of more general social interaction, the scales corresponding to the DSM-III-R descriptions of Social Phobia--Circumscribed and Generalised types, respectively. Both scales were shown to possess high levels of internal consistency and test-retest reliability. They discriminated betwee

BACKGROUND: Stigma is a pervasive negative psychological attitude among women with infertility, adversely affecting their health and emotional well-being. The existing Infertility Stigma Scale (ISS) has been effectively validated in various countries and regions; however, a more concise tool is lacking. A brief measurement tool is of significant importance for reducing the burden on patients, enhancing research efficiency, and facilitating clinical application. This study aims to simplify the ISS and verify its psychometric properties.
METHODS: The study is divided into two phases. Initially,
