Stepped care, stepped care "lite" & matching intervention components to individual mental health needs: A rapid scoping review of mental health and substance use interventions for post-secondary students.

PURPOSE: Stepped Care Models (SCM) and other approaches for organizing the delivery of services and resources by individual mental health (MH) needs are being increasingly implemented in post-secondary institutions. However, no consensus definitions exist of what constitutes a SCM for post-secondary students (PSS), and there is little guidance for evaluation of these complex, multicomponent interventions. The purpose of this research is to identify and characterize MH and substance use interventions for PSS that apply a SCM, stepped approach (i.e., stepped care "lite"), and/or organize deliver

Strategies to prevent weight gain in workplace and college settings: a systematic review.

OBJECTIVE: To compare the effectiveness of self-management, dietary, physical activity, and/or environmental strategies for the prevention of weight gain among adults in work and college settings. We excluded studies with a weight loss component. Our weight outcomes included body mass index (BMI), weight, and waist circumference. RESULTS: We included 7 work- and 2 college-based interventional studies, which

Campus diversity, Jewishness, and antisemitism.

To explore current attitudes among Jewish students, faculty, and leaders of Jewish campus organizations regarding the putative exclusion of Jewish concerns from campus dialogs around diversity, we recruited 40 such individuals to engage in a semi-structured interview. The consensus among our interviewees was that there is a significant, ongoing, and too-often overlooked problem with virulent anti-Israel activity on many campuses that often seeps into antisemitism; that many, though not all, Jewish students are disturbed by this phenomena; that the consequences of anti-Israel hostility on some

Attitudes and practices regarding volunteering among medical graduates from Romania.

INTRODUCTION: The public health sector is among the most in need of volunteer engagement. The medical student community may participate in many voluntary activities, such as getting involved in public health programs, organizing community health awareness events, delivering administrative support to local health authorities, or engaging in emergencies or in disaster relief operations. Prior studies demonstrated that students' involvement in extracurricular activities such as volunteering and community service projects can lower burnout, develop stress management skills, and promote leadership,

Measuring university student satisfaction with a campus family planning clinic in Costa Rica.

Family planning clinics for university students play a valuable role in promoting health. This research project, a pilot study among women students who sought family planning services through a Costa Rican university clinic, introduced student evaluation of the family planning clinic, documented services provided in family planning visits, and identified issues for further study. Aged 18-33 years, the 53 respondents (a convenient sample) who completed a self-administered questionnaire were mostly (64%) single; all were sexually active; and 78% wished to have children (or more children) some da

Lessons learned from lockdown: how the COVID-19 pandemic revealed intersecting inequalities of mental health, well-being, and learning for first-year UK university students.

PURPOSE: Many COVID-19 studies treat the student population as homogenous, concealing the experiences of vulnerable groups. This study conceptualised vulnerability during the pandemic as an intersection of being a first-year student with a history of poor mental health and being from a low-income background. The aim of this study was to understand how these students' profiles shape their university and educational experience over 1 year of the pandemic. METHODS: Longitudinal, semi-structured interviews with 20 first-year students from UK universities were conducted during the 2020-2021 academ

Facilitating access to prenatal care through an interprofessional student-run free clinic.

INTRODUCTION: Addressing the persistent challenge of inadequate prenatal care requires innovative solutions. Student-run free health centers are poised to rise to this challenge. The Shade Tree Clinic Early Pregnancy Program, jointly operated by university medical and nursing programs, functions as an ongoing access-to-care portal for pregnant women without health insurance. The clinic is run by medical students and nurse-midwifery students and uses a service-based learning model that allows students to work and learn in supervised, interprofessional teams while providing evidence-based prenat

Exploring stakeholder support for student-run free clinics to address gaps in non-communicable disease care in Ghana: An exploratory sequential mixed-methods study.

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including hypertension and diabetes, are leading causes of morbidity and mortality in Ghana, where underserved communities face persistent barriers to screening, early management, and self-care education. Student-run free clinics (SRFCs) may help address these gaps, but their feasibility in sub-Saharan Africa remains underexplored. We used an exploratory sequential mixed-methods design to examine stakeholder perspectives on and support for SRFCs as a model for expanding NCD care in Ghana. Qualitative data were collected through six focus group discussions with

Awareness, Attitudes, and Utilization of Counseling Services Among Students at the University of Sharjah, UAE: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Background University students experience high levels of academic and psychological stress, yet counseling services remain underutilized, particularly in Middle Eastern settings, where stigma and limited awareness may affect help-seeking. Although studies in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have examined general attitudes toward professional psychological help-seeking, institution-specific evidence on students' awareness of campus counseling services, perceived confidentiality, and actual utilization remains limited. In particular, data describing these factors among students at the University o

Dealing with verbal abuse.

In the recent report by the Health and Safety Commission (HSC 1987) into violence in the Health Service, the group of staff who were identified as being most at risk, were student nurses. The highest incidence of aggression reported was verbal abuse, and in a 12-month-period 4 out of 10 students who responded to the study had experienced such abuse. Student nurses are in a very vulnerable position and are likely to be the recipients of verbal attack, such as anger, hostility or abuse. This vulnerability may be due to their front line position, their lack of skill and experience, or more often
