Stress distribution pattern in two different no-post systems in endodontically treated maxillary central incisors: A three-dimensional finite element analysis.

AIM: This study aimed to evaluate the stress distribution in an endodontically treated tooth restored with two different reinforcing fibers followed by direct composite restoration using a finite element analysis (FEA). SETTINGS AND DESIGN: FEA. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: Two three-dimensional models of endodontically treated maxillary central incisors were restored with two reinforcing fibers: the polyethylene fibers (PFs) and the short fiber-reinforced composite (SFRC), respectively. The restoration was carried out without any intraradicular preparation using direct composite restoration. The m

Does Printing Orientation Matter in PolyJet 3D Printed Teeth for Endodontics? A Micro-CT Analysis.

This study aimed to identify the optimal printing orientation (X, Y, or Z axis) and positioning of a mandibular molar presenting an isthmus using PolyJet™ technology. The influence of these parameters on dimensional accuracy and on the behavior of 3D-printed teeth (3DPT) during endodontic preparation with ProTaper Gold® system was evaluated. Six groups (XA, XB, YA, YB, ZA, ZB; n = 10) were printed with different axis orientations and distinct isthmus positions relative to the build platform. All samples underwent micro-computed tomography scanning before and after endodontic preparation. Regar

Glass ionomer microleakage from preparations by an Er/YAG laser or a high-speed handpiece.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to compare microleakage of glass ionomer materials (GIC) using two different modes of cavity preparation: a high-speed hand piece and an erbium/yttrium-aluminum-garnet (Er/YAG) laser. METHODS: Eighty caries free permanent molar teeth had class V preparations cut on both the buccal and lingual surfaces. The high-speed hand piece was used to prepare a class V cavity preparation on the buccal surface and an Er/YAG laser was used to prepare a class V cavity preparation on the lingual surface. GIC or resin modified GIC was used as the restorative material.

A Novel Laboratorial Approach to Evaluate Bacterial Microleakage of Endodontic Sealers.

To avoid failure of endodontic treatment, it is important to properly seal the root canals after chemomechanical preparation in order to avoid microleakage. Typically, sealing involves the use of gutta-percha and sealing cement, the latter of which adheres to the dentin and fills the spaces between the gutta-percha and the dentin walls. Laboratory studies have been performed to detect microleakage of endodontic sealers based on various criteria, including microbiological ones; however, none guaranteed that the leakage occurred through the root canal space and not through other pathways. This a

Effects of Er:YAG laser in caries treatment: a clinical pilot study.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Various lasers have been suggested for cavity preparation. Pain reduction is expected as a potential benefit of laser usage. Among the systems studied in vitro, the Er:YAG laser offers a distinct combination of high ablation efficiency and low thermal side effects. Animal studies demonstrated that pulp damage can be avoided when appropriate laser parameters are used. STUDY DESIGN/MATERIAL AND METHODS: The present prospective clinical study was intended to test the practical applicability of the system and to investigate the patient's response. The study population co

The Effect of Isthmus on Vertical Root Fracture in Endodontically Treated Teeth.

INTRODUCTION: Vertical root fracture (VRF) from apical condensation of gutta-percha is a common failure mode in endodontically treated teeth. Virtually all previous studies of VRF are limited to 1-canal roots. In this study, we consider experimentally and analytically VRF in roots with 2 canals. METHODS: The interior root morphology in mandibular molar teeth extracted from patients due to VRF or other reason was examined from a series of polished horizontal cross sections. A 2-dimensional fracture mechanics analysis was used to determine crack growth from the canal surface to the outer root s

Baicalin inhibits root resorption during tooth movement in a rodent model.

OBJECTIVE: Baicalin mediates bone metabolism and has shown protective activity against periodontal tissue damage in a rat model of periodontitis. Therefore, we hypothesized that baicalin may inhibit the root resorption that occurs during orthodontic tooth movement and examined its effect on the histological changes in periodontal tissue that occur during tooth movement. METHODS: First molars of rats were subjected to traction using excessive orthodontic force to produce a root resorption model. Rats in the baicalin group received baicalin for 3 weeks during tooth movement, and the amount of f

Correction factors in the EPR dose reconstruction for residents of the Middle and Lower Techa riverside.

During 1949-1956, the first Soviet nuclear weapons plant, Mayak, released about 7.6 x 10(7) m(-3) of liquid radioactive waste with a total activity of 10(17) Bq into the Techa River (Southern Urals, Russia). 90Sr contributed 11.6% to the total waste radioactivity. As a result of these radioactive discharges, about 28,000 local residents were exposed to ionizing radiation, and some of them received relatively high doses. Internal exposure of the population residing at the Middle and Lower Techa riverside was mostly from 90Sr deposited in bone and tooth tissues. In order to reconstruct radiation

Orthodontic treatment of a skeletal Class III malocclusion with severe root resorption of the maxillary anterior teeth. Autotransplantation using a 3-dimensional printed replica of the donor tooth.

This case report describes the successful orthodontic treatment of a 12-year-old girl with skeletal Class III malocclusion and severe root resorption of the maxillary anterior teeth. Ectopic eruption and mesial inclination of the bilateral maxillary canines caused severe root resorption of the right central and lateral incisors and the left lateral incisor. These 3 teeth were extracted, and traction was applied to the maxillary right and left canines toward the extracted right central incisor and left lateral incisor, respectively. In the mandibular arch, the bilateral first premolars were ext

Concrescence: can the teeth involved be moved or separated?

The atrophy of the periodontal ligament places the tooth very close to the bone or another tooth, as occurs in unerupted teeth. The absent interdental bone and the lack of functional periodontal stimulus may lead to the fusion of the appositional layers of cement between the roots of the teeth. Concrescence almost always occurs in the region of the maxillary molars. Asymptomatic, it should always be remembered when the proper response to orthodontic movement is not obtained, and there is no apparent explanation. When surgically extracting a tooth and there is resistance, insisting will not be

Dental implant reconstruction after endodontic failure: report of case.

Avulsion of natural teeth caused by trauma may present an unusual problem for the general practitioner. Endodontic therapy and replantation of the tooth into the socket have a relatively low long-term prognosis because of internal or external root resorption. Dental implants can provide proper support and function for missing teeth with excellent esthetic results without preparation of natural dentition. In this case report, an implant system is used to restore an anterior space created by the loss of endodontically treated central and lateral incisors.

The Influence of a Novel, Crenelated Design of CAD-CAM Ceramic Veneers on the Debonding Strength.

(1) Background: Aesthetic dentistry has become one of the most dynamic fields in modern dental medicine. Ceramic veneers represent the most appropriate prosthetic restorations for smile enhancement, due to their minimal invasiveness and highly natural appearance. For long-term clinical success, accurate design of both tooth preparation and ceramic veneers is of paramount importance. The aims of this in vitro study were to assess the stress in anterior teeth restored with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) ceramic veneers and compare the resistance to detachment …

Pulp revascularization on an adult mandibular right second premolar: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Pulp revascularization has become a new method for the treatment of periapical diseases in young permanent teeth in recent years. Through root canal flushing and disinfection, avoiding mechanical preparation, guiding apical stem cells into the root canal and promoting the continuous development of tooth roots, it has achieved good clinical curative effects. But in adult patients with chronic periapical periodontitis with immature roots and open apices, apical barrier technology is often used to treat these teeth. CASE SUMMARY: Pulp revascularization of a 26-year-old patient's toot

Review of the success of pulp exposure treatment of cariously and traumatically exposed pulps in immature permanent incisors and molars.

The decision to retain immature permanent tooth with pulp disease is problematical. Restoring the tooth would normally involve some form of pulp capping/pulpotomy procedure or a more radical pulpectomy and root canal treatment. Pulp capping/pulpotomy procedures, where all or part of the pulp is retained, relies upon an accurate assessment of the pulp condition, and the careful management of the remaining healthy tissue. Pulpectomy or root canal treatment is technically difficult as the root apex is open with the result that conventional preparation and filling techniques are compromised. On th

Apexogenesis treatment with a new endodontic cement: a case report.

INTRODUCTION: This article describes an apexogenesis report of an 8-year old boy referred to our clinic 4 weeks after an impact trauma to the maxillary left central incisor that caused a complicated crown fracture and pulpal exposure. METHODS: In the radiographic examination, the tooth was observed to be immature. After access cavity preparation, cervical pulpotomy was performed, and the remaining pulp was capped with calcium enriched mixture (CEM) cement. The crown was restored by using the fractured incisal segment on the next day. RESULTS: The radiographic and clinical examinations on the
