A case of tuberculous radiculitis in the lumbosacral region resulting in flaccid paresis of the lower limbs is presented. The primary site of tuberculosis was the intestine. Hematogenic dissemination resulted in organ tuberculosis of the third lumbar vertebra and left kidney. The infection spread locally into the lumbosacral dura and nerve roots. A decline in general immunological resistance lead to fatal dissemination of the disease into the meninges, lungs, liver, left adrenal and right kidney. Differential diagnostic problems, especially the Guillain-Barré syndrome, are discussed.

BACKGROUND: Extrapulmonary tuberculosis is a relatively frequent disease in patients with HIV infection. This may be observed coinciding with pulmonary involvement or without diagnostic data of the same. Within extrapulmonary involvement, gastrointestinal involvement is one of the least frequently observed and its diagnosis is very difficult due to the scarce clinical suspicion because of the unspecific symptomatology.
METHODS: Segmentary colonic tuberculosis was diagnosed in two patients presenting rectal bleeding. The diagnosis was neither clinically nor endoscopically suspected and only hi

The advent of CT and MRI imaging in the last two decades has redefined the approach and analysis of various diseases including tuberculosis. Tuberculosis afflicts hollow and solid viscera. Genitourinary, hepatobiliary and adrenal tuberculosis is uncommon in children. CT and MRI have however shown several advantages over conventional radiology and other imaging modalities in early diagnosis and follow-up of tuberculosis in different parts of the body.

The mammalian gastrointestinal tract quickly becomes densely populated with foreign microorganisms shortly after birth, thereby establishing a lifelong presence of a microbial community. These commensal gut microbiota serve various functions, such as providing nutrients, processing ingested compounds, maintaining gut homeostasis, and shaping the intestinal structure in the host. Dysbiosis, which is characterized by an imbalance in the microbial community, is closely linked to numerous human ailments and has recently emerged as a key factor in health prognosis. Tuberculosis (TB), a highly conta

UNLABELLED: Tuberculosis is a public health problem. The most common presentation is pulmonary disease. The diagnosis of any extrapulmonary forms are quite difficult. Clinical manifestations of gastrointestinal tuberculosis are non-specific and compatible with pathologies such as inflammatory bowel disease, advanced ovarian cancer, deep mycosis, yersinia infection and amebomas. Abdominal form is located at 6th place of the extrapulmonary forms, after lymphatic, genitourinary, osteoarticular, miliary and meningeal infections. Eventually, 25 to 75% of patients with abdominal tuberculosis will re

BACKGROUND: Tuberculosis (TB) remains a global health issue, with an estimated 10 million new cases reported in 2019. While pulmonary TB is prevalent, extrapulmonary TB, including hepatic tuberculosis, poses significant challenges, particularly in immunocompromised individuals. Hepatic tuberculosis is rare, constituting about 3% of extrapulmonary TB cases and is often diagnosed in the context of miliary TB. Its diagnosis is complicated by non-specific symptoms and difficulties in differentiating it from other hepatic lesions on imaging.
CASE: A 46 years old female presented with moderate uppe

A 60 yr old previously healthy man was treated for gradually elevating fever and rash followed by leucopenia and mycosis of the gastrointestinal tract; he died within 6 weeks of the first symptoms appearing. Histologic examination revealed disseminated tuberculosis of paratracheal lymph nodes, liver, spleen and bone marrow with the presence of acid fast bacilli by smear examination. Multiple colonies of the same strain of Mycobacterium kansasii were isolated by bacteriological examination of lymph node and spleen tissue. Neither macroscopical nor histological examination showed any evidence of

UNLABELLED: Enteric fever is a common occurrence in Southeast Asia with a myriad of presentations. Partial treatment often leads to prolonged illness. Along with this, bowel imaging often confounds the picture with tuberculosis. Colonoscopy and biopsy may help to differentiate from tuberculosis. The data on colonoscopy is scarce in enteric fever and is mostly available from case reports of gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding. We have described three cases of enteric fever with GI involvement mimicking tuberculosis. The colonoscopy picture is characteristic of pinkish-bluish ileal mucosa, with edema

INTRODUCTION: TLA is most commonly associated with an immunocompromised state, a focus of infection in the lungs or gastrointestinal system, or as part of congenital or miliary tuberculosis. Isolated TLA is rare, with only a few cases reported in the literature.
METHODS: We describe a case of a 24-years-old healthy male with an isolated Tuberculous Liver abscess presented with prolonged fever, abdominal pain, and general malaise. He was successfully treated with a 6-month antituberculosis regimen and percutaneous abscess drainage.

Gastrointestinal histoplasmosis (GIH) without pulmonary and bone marrow involvement is very rare worldwide. It can be misdiagnosed as intestinal tuberculosis or Crohn's disease. There are just few case reports of GIH in patients with a positive HIV antibody test. Here, we report a patient who presented to our hospital with repeated intestinal obstruction. The suspicious diagnosis was intestinal tuberculosis or Crohn's disease due to unspecific clinical manifestations and radiologic images. Our patient's HIV antibody test was negative. She had no medical prescriptions. Therefore, our differenti

Primary gastrointestinal non-Hodgkin lymphoma, while rare, most often presents as diffuse large B-cell lymphoma located in the stomach or ileocecal region. Presenting symptoms include abdominal pain, gastrointestinal bleeding, weight loss, or obstructive symptoms. Imaging can reveal ileitis or obstruction. We report a case of a man from Honduras with latent tuberculosis and chronic hepatitis B who presented with features of Crohn's disease through clinical, radiologic, and endoscopic findings but was ultimately diagnosed with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma by histology. We emphasize the importa

Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease that can affect any organ system of the body. Abdominal TB can be gastrointestinal, lymph nodal, visceral or peritoneal. The gallbladder (GB) is rarely involved in abdominal TB as a primary organ. Extensive research literature on gallbladder TB is limited to case reports. There has been no review on this rare abdominal pathology. GB tuberculosis is a difficult diagnosis preoperatively. It is a rare differential among the more common gallbladder pathologies such as cholelithiasis, or a gallbladder malignancy. Typical histopathology of the resected spec

Helicobacter pylori infection is a problem frequently handled by the gastroenterologist, but many other infections may cause symptoms and pathological findings which is of great significance for the endoscopist to recognize. Candida infection is the most common infection in the oesophagus. It may signal an underlying disease like diabetes. When the patient enters Norway from an area where tuberculosis is endemic it is necessary to be aware of possible abdominal tuberculosis. Immuno-compromised patients, and especially AIDS-patients, may have several dangerous gastrointestinal infections. The m

In this retrospective cohort of non-HIV patients without pharmacological immunosuppression, who presented with extrapulmonary/disseminated tuberculosis, the gastrointestinal tract, lymph nodes, and genitourinary tract were the most commonly affected organs. 24-month all-cause mortality was 18%. Cardiovascular disease, central nervous system involvement, mycobacteremia, and ICU admission were independently associated with death.

A case of brucellosis associated with peritonitis, intestinal obstruction, granulomatous hepatitis, inappropriate antidiuretic hormone (ADH) secretion and meningitis is reported. Initially, the patient was diagnosed as a case of disseminated tuberculosis and treated accordingly. However, the serologic tests for brucellosis were strongly positive and the patient was subsequently treated as a case of brucellosis and recovered fully. The gastrointestinal manifestations of brucellosis are reviewed.

Cases of pulmonary tuberculosis at the lower and middle lobular are not so rare. However, there is evidence that there is a rise in the number of patients with lower lobular tuberculosis (0.56-15.1%) of those with pulmonary tuberculosis. The diagnosis of lower lobular tuberculosis presents certain difficulties; it has to be differentiated from multisegmental pneumonia and tumors in some cases. Middle and lower tuberculosis was notified in 4.7% among the first detected patients in the Brest Region in 2003, in 6.8% among the patients with infiltrative pulmonary tuberculosis during 8 months in 20

BACKGROUND: Adrenal tuberculosis remains a leading cause of primary adrenal insufficiency in tuberculosis-endemic regions. Its clinical presentation is often insidious and non-specific, leading to significant diagnostic delays. Gastrointestinal symptoms, though common in adrenal insufficiency, may dominate the clinical picture and direct attention away from the underlying endocrine disorder.
CASE SUMMARY: A 40-year-old Ethiopian woman presented with a five-month history of intermittent abdominal pain and recurrent non-bloody vomiting. Associated symptoms included myalgia, arthralgia, intermit
