This article intends to shed a light on air quality in Turkey and compare air pollutant emissions on a national scale with that of the European countries. In order to estimate the quantities of Turkish emissions in the past and their future predictions, a national emission inventory was prepared with respect to five major pollutants consisting of particulate matter(PM), SOx, NOx, non-methane volatile organic compounds, and CO with 5-year intervals between 1985 and 2005. [Violence in partnership of immigrant women from Turkey].

Forty-one female immigrants from Turkey, who were victims of violence in their relationships and diagnosed with "reaction to severe stress and adjustment disorders" (F43, ICD-10) were compared with a controle-group of the same origin, sex, age and diagnosis who had not suffered from such violence. The frequency of emergency treatment and suicide attempts (in the last month before the first consultation) of the victims of violence were higher than in the controle-group. Histoplasmosis, a disease endemic to North America, is caused by Histoplasma capsulatum. To the best of our knowledge, the chronic cavitary pulmonary histoplasmosis patient described here presents the first case in which the fungus was isolated from sputum culture in Turkey.

Psychological consequences of the 1992 Erzincan (Turkey) earthquake.

The long-term psychological after-effects of the 1992 Erzincan earthquake are examined. 461 subjects from Erzincan were administered a semi-structured interview. Emotional distress was measured by a symptom checklist containing 40 items. 129 subjects from Ankara, the capital of Turkey, were also used as a comparison sample. The factor analysis revealed that distress symptoms can be grouped into phobic anxiety, somatization, depression and hostility. Musculo-skeletal development was measured in males and females of two genetic lines of turkey breeding stock: one line had been selected mainly for egg production (E-line) while the other had been selected for meat production as well as egg production (M-line). 2. Plasma triglyceride levels in ethanol-fed turkey poults.

Plasma triglyceride levels were determined in ethanol-fed turkey poults at 24 and 38 days posthatch. Ethanol, fed at concentrations of 4, 4.5 and 5% during the first, second and third weeks, respectively, significantly (P less than or equal to 0.5) elevated plasma triglyceride levels.
