The ultrastructure of trabeculectomy specimens obtained from enucleated eyes was compared to that of 23 similar specimens extracted from glaucomatous eyes. It was thus possible to study the trabecular meshwork from Schwalbe's line to the iris root, the corneal endothelium, the canal of Schlemm, its inner and outer walls, and the collectors. We report here the first documented case of ocular coccidioidomycosis in a chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes). In 1996, a 12-year-old female chimpanzee was undergoing treatment with an experimental triazole, BayR3783, for coccidioidomycosis when she was diagnosed with severe conjunctivitis in the right eye. Subsequent development of a coccidioidal granuloma of the ventral conjunctiva and anterior uvea was noted over the next several months, distorting the lens, iris, pupil, and sclera and progressing to uveitis. We analyzed the relationship between the hemodynamics of the anterior ciliary artery and intraocular pressure (IOP) by measuring the pressure of the artery with a modified pressure chamber method and the diameter of the artery on color photographs taken with a photo slit lamp (Zeiss). Of 38 subjects, nine were normal, and 29 were ocular hypertensive.
