A wearable nanofluidic sensor for determining the sweat nicotine.

The escalating prevalence of electronic cigarettes has intensified public health discourse regarding the implications of nicotine exposure. Consequently, the development of rigorous, non-invasive diagnostic methodologies to evaluate secondhand smoke exposure is imperative. Precise quantification of nicotine levels provides a critical evidence base for designing interventions aimed at smoking cessation and the prophylaxis of smoking-related pathologies. In this study, we introduce a novel biosensing paradigm that leverages the I-V characteristics of asymmetric nanochannel arrays, synergized wit

Skin-inspired bio-based polyurethane elastomers with dual-soft-segment-regulated reversible associations for flexible strain sensors.

Flexible polymeric materials for wearable electronics are expected to maintain mechanical robustness, large-deformation adaptability, elastic recovery, and stable sensing performance under repeated deformation. However, these requirements are difficult to satisfy simultaneously because strong interchain interactions improve load bearing but usually restrict chain mobility, whereas highly flexible networks often lack sufficient mechanical strength. Herein, a dual-soft-segment regulation strategy is proposed to construct bio-based polyurethane elastomers with an optimized amorphous association n

Ultra-Robust and Hyperelastic Triboelectric Webbing for Self-Powered Rehabilitation Sensing with Invisible and Embedded Design.

Driven by the rapid evolution of flexible electronics, rehabilitation healthcare is shifting toward devices that seamlessly interface with human body. Yet, existing solutions often simply layer flexible sensor units over rigid components, making it difficult to combine high elasticity, mechanical robustness, and true imperceptibility. Here, we are pioneering a super-tough (∼54.7 MPa) and highly stretchable (>400% strain) triboelectric webbing (T-webbing) that overcomes this long-standing trade-off through the synergistic integration of an embedded textured architecture and functional elastic y

Biomechanical Analysis of the Field Hockey Sweep Skill Using Inertial Measurement Units.

Wearable sensors like inertial measurement units (IMUs) can quantify sport technique in natural settings, yet field hockey-specific skill analyses remain limited. This exploratory study investigated how relative foot placement, stick orientation, and lower body kinematics at impact relate to performance of the field hockey sweep skill. Eight experienced female participants performed sweeps under three foot positions relative to the ball (in front, in line, and behind) while IMUs recorded body segment and stick motion. Sweep performance was characterized by accuracy, bounciness, and ball speed.

Motor-free hip exosuit via high-output fibrous dielectric elastomer actuators.

Exosuits can assist gait and reduce fatigue for both healthy and pathological populations, yet their bulky, rigid actuators (usually motors or pneumatic actuators) hinder natural, comfortable movement. Dielectric elastomer actuators (DEAs) provide a lightweight, compliant alternative, but are constrained by insufficient force, energy output, and integration challenges. Herein, we propose a motor-free hip exosuit driven by high-output fibrous DEAs, offering a previously unexplored paradigm for lower-limb assistance. We develop high-aspect-ratio fibrous DEAs that deliver high blocked stress (381

A wearable sensor-based kinematic dataset collected under standardized rehabilitation tasks from 120 post-stroke patients.

Stroke frequently results in long-term motor impairments, making effective rehabilitation essential for functional recovery. However, the development of intelligent rehabilitation systems is hindered by the lack of large-scale kinematic data from stroke patients. Here, we present REHAB, a wearable sensor-based kinematic dataset collected from 120 post-stroke patients during a two-week rehabilitation program. The dataset comprises signals recorded from 27 standardized assessment movements and 16 rehabilitation training movements, providing comprehensive limb kinematics together with correspondi

Sleep-disordered breathing, particularly obstructive sleep apnea, is a highly prevalent condition linked to fragmented sleep, impaired quality of life, and elevated risks of cardiovascular, metabolic, and neurocognitive disorders. Polysomnography remains the diagnostic gold standard for detecting sleep-related breathing abnormalities. However, its high cost, operational complexity, and patient discomfort hinder large-scale deployment and long-term monitoring. In recent years, wearable sensing technologies have emerged as promising alternatives, enabling portable, noninvasive, and user-friendly

A systematic scoping review identifying effective virtual reality stress tasks inducing physiological reactivity for future wearables validation.

Efficient and ecologically sound validation of wearables remains a major challenge in stress research. Virtual reality (VR) could support this by providing standardized, immersive stress induction, but the field lacks a comprehensive and exhaustive overview of which VR tasks reliably evoke physiological stress responses. This review delivers a systematic comparison of VR stressors, mapping 11 tasks into three core stressor categories (social-evaluative, environmental, and cognitive) and offers a synthesis of their effectiveness, methodological characteristics, and suitability for VR-based wear

Simultaneous respiration and motion monitoring is essential for self-management of sleep apnea syndrome (SAS), enabling feedback-driven exercise therapy and symptom alleviation. However, current home-based systems lack integrated sensing and require external power, limiting personalized rehabilitation. Here, we develop a dual-functional, self-powered sensor system integrating n-type conducting polymer poly(benzodifurandione) (PBFDO)-based humidity and pressure sensors for concurrent respiration and motion tracking. The humidity sensor employs a localized surface dipole disruption mechanism. Sp

Underwater Suit-Wearing Cyborg Insect Capable of Hours-Long Diving and Terra-Aqua Travel.

The fundamental operational range of cyborg insects, which are hybrid robots that combine a living insect with an electronic controller, is inherently restricted to the host's natural environment. To extend their operational range, we developed a wearable diving suit for terrestrial insects. The suit integrates a miniaturised oxygen generation module with a flexible waterproof shell, enabling continuous oxygen supply and isolation from surrounding water. By fitting a cockroach, which is a terrestrial species, into this diving suit, we allowed it to survive and operate in oxygen-deprived enviro

Gamma wave entrainment is a promising approach for improving cognitive function, particularly in the early stages of Alzheimer's disease. However, for everyday treatment, a light source system that maintains visibility while delivering effective stimulation is essential for patient comfort and practicality. To address this need, we developed organic light-emitting diode (OLED) glasses with optimized large-area transparent OLEDs for gamma wave entrainment. The optimization involved all layers of the device, including encapsulation, to achieve high luminous transmittance (75%), uniformity (over
