The Peripheral Arterial Bleeding (PAB) classification: a novel classification for safety reporting in peripheral arterial disease - an international Delphi consensus study.

OBJECTIVE: Multiple bleeding classifications are used to classify major bleeding in patients with peripheral arterial disease (PAD), but none have been widely accepted or validated for this disease. Consequently, trials report safety outcomes numbers derived from different classifications, limiting homogeneity as well as comparability. The goal of this study was to achieve expert consensus on a definition for major bleeding for PAD. DESIGN: The Delphi method was used to acquire expert opinions in a structured manner. METHODS: Fifty experts in the field of PAD were invited to participate. Que…

Two-Step Semiautomated Classification of Choroidal Metastases on MRI: Orbit Localization via Bounding Boxes Followed by Binary Classification via Evolutionary Strategies.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The choroid of the eye is a rare site for metastatic tumor spread, and as small lesions on the periphery of brain MRI studies, these choroidal metastases are often missed. To improve their detection, we aimed to use artificial intelligence to distinguish between brain MRI scans containing normal orbits and choroidal metastases. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We present a novel hierarchical deep learning framework for sequential cropping and classification on brain MR images to detect choroidal metastases. The key innovation of this approach lies in training an orbit localizati…

Classification of Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada disease using feature selection and classification based on wide-field swept-source optical coherence tomography angiography.

Background: Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada (VKH) disease is a common and easily blinded uveitis entity, with choroid being the main involved site. Classification of VKH disease and its different stages is crucial because they differ in clinical manifestations and therapeutic interventions. Wide-field swept-source optical coherence tomography angiography (WSS-OCTA) provides the advantages of non-invasiveness, large-field-of-view, high resolution, and ease of measuring and calculating choroid, offering the potential feasibility of simplified VKH classification assessment based on WSS-OCTA. Methods: 15 hea…

Proposal of new classification of femoral trochanteric fracture by three-dimensional computed tomography and relationship to usual plain X-ray classification.

PURPOSE: Classification of femoral trochanteric fractures is usually based on plain X-ray findings using the Evans, Jensen, or AO/OTA classification. However, complications such as nonunion and cut out of the lag screw or blade are seen even in stable fracture. This may be due to the difficulty of exact diagnosis of fracture pattern in plain X-ray. Computed tomography (CT) may provide more information about the fracture pattern, but such data are scarce. In the present study, it was performed to propose a classification system for femoral trochanteric fractures using three-dimensional CT (3D-C…
