The efficacy of primary prophylactic treatment for opportunistic infections can be estimated in an observational cohort study by adjusting for clinical and laboratory markers of the immunodeficiency (e.g., oral candidiasis, CD4%, lymphocyte cell counts) as time-dependent co-variates (providing that the treatment does not directly alter the markers). BACKGROUND: Cutaneous horn (cornu cutaneum) is a morphological designation for a protuberant mass of keratin that resembles the horn of an animal. It results from unusual cohesiveness of keratinized material from the superficial layers of the skin or implanted deeply in the cutis. This lesion may be associated with a benign, premalignant, or malignant lesion at the base, masking numerous conditions.
METHODS: A retrospective analysis of 48 cases of cutaneous horns of the eyelid treated between 1992 and 2002 has been performed.

For this purpose, 77 patients with this tumor were examined and asked to fill out a questionnaire. The authors treated 28 patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) with the new preparation SH B 209 AE consisting of 0.035 mg of ethinylestradiol and 2 mg of cyproterone acetate (EE + CPA) throughout 12 months. From the analysis of the endocrine and clinical modifications induced by the drug along with the negligible incidence of side effects the conclusion can be drawn that this new estro-progestational association is indicated in the therapy of PCOS.
