PURPOSE: To investigate by ERG the effects of Toxoplasma gondii infection on the visual function of interferon gamma knockout (GKO) mice, as a model of immunocompromised hosts.
METHODS: Susceptible wild-type (WT) C57BL/6 and GKO C57BL/6 mice were infected with five cysts of the avirulent T. gondii perorally. ERGs were recorded before and after the infection. The eyes of WT and GKO mice were enucleated and prepared for histologic studies 4 weeks and 12 days after infection, respectively.

OBJECTIVE: To describe the most efficient topical horizontally centrifuged platelet-rich fibrin (H-PRF) treatment protocol for equine ulcerative keratitis (EUK) that is easy to use, and to report the preliminary concentration of growth factors and cytokines in equine H-PRF.
ANIMALS: 5 client-owned horses diagnosed with EUK were enrolled over an 11-month period.

PURPOSE: Affecting children by age 3, primary congenital glaucoma (PCG) can cause debilitating vision loss by the developmental impairment of aqueous drainage resulting in high intraocular pressure (IOP), globe enlargement, and optic neuropathy. TEK haploinsufficiency accounts for 5% of PCG in diverse populations, with low penetrance explained by variable dysgenesis of Schlemm's canal (SC) in mice. BACKGROUND: This study was prompted by previous findings that suggested that scleral wrapping increased the rate of complications following insertion of bone-derived hydroxyapatite orbital implants and compared the long-term results of implants inserted with and without scleral wraps.
METHODS: This retrospective case series reviewed the long-term outcomes of 159 patients who had undergone enucleation with insertion of a bone-derived hydroxyapatite orbital implant at Dunedin Hospital between 1977 and 2006. BACKGROUND: The objectives of this prospective study were to avoid adjuvant treatment for patients with intraocular disease and patients with postlaminar optic nerve invasion (PL-ONI) without full choroidal or scleral invasion. Adjuvant chemotherapy (Regimen 1) was given to patients with scleral invasion, PL-ONI without cut section, and full choroidal and/or scleral invasion. A more intensive regimen of higher dose intravenous chemotherapy (Regimen 2) and local radiotherapy was given to patients with PL-ONI and compromise at the cut end and to patients with overt extraocular disease.
