This is a report of the use, efficacy, and theoretic safety of negative-pressure wound therapy over ocular structures as a part of surgical treatment for necrotizing fasciitis. We treated a 65-year-old man with facial necrotizing fasciitis requiring serial debridement and closure of extensive periorbital and nasal wounds with skin grafts. BACKGROUND: It has been suggested that the adjunctive use of 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA) with intense pulsed light (IPL), known as ALA-IPL photodynamic therapy (PDT), increases the benefits of IPL therapy for photoaging.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of ALA-IPL PDT for photoaging in Chinese subjects with Fitzpatrick skin types III and IV.
METHOD: This was a prospective, controlled, split-face study with 26 subjects. Subjects received three split-face treatments 4 weeks apart. A blinded investigator assessed the signs of photodamage. Satisfaction was also assessed.

Granuloma faciale (GF) is a benign chronic condition characterized by recurrent plaques and nodules most commonly found on the face. We report a man with a 6-month history of plaques on his forehead and preauricular area consistent with GF that responded to twice-daily application of topical tacrolimus ointment, and who remains in remission 1 year later. This case supports previous reports of the successful use of topical tacrolimus in treating GF.

A prospective survey has been carried out in the Brazzaville (Congo) dermatology service in order to specify dermatosis linked to the use of bleaching agents in 104 Congolese women consulting for this problem. The used bleaching agents were topical corticoids based products for 40 cases, hydroquinone for 32 cases, and hydroquinone associated with topical dermocorticoids for 32 cases. Photosensitivity is an uncommon but characteristic side effect of quinolones, with a variable incidence for the different drugs. We report 5 cases of photocontact dermatitis due to suprofen, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug introduced to the Japanese market in 1989, and available as a 1% ointment. The patients developed pruritic eczematous lesions after applying the ointment for from 2 weeks to 3 months. The Urbach-Wiethe disease is a rare condition, where a hyaline substance of an unknown biochemical nature is accumulated in both teguments and mucous membranes. It has an autosomic and recessive genetic transmission. Cutaneous and mucous lesions (especially on the upper digestive tract) are described, insisting about the laryngeal location and the neurological troubles (with their main symptom: intracranial calcifications). The association of the disease with congenital indifference to pain is to be noted. Two particular cases are reported.

Ninety-five patients with perioral dermatitis were studied from an epidemiological aspect. Consistent clearing of the eruption was obtained with oral tetracycline in combination with a topical sodium sulfacetamide-sulfur-hydro-cortisone lotion. Comparison of the study group of patients to a group of 50 control patients revealed highly significant quantitative differences in the cosmetic preparations used by the two groups. This latter finding would suggest that lubricating and moisturizing products play some part in the etiology of perioral dermatitis.
