Bacterial strain Exiguobacterium sp. ZM-2 isolated from agricultural soil irrigated with tannery effluents, was examined for its resistance to hexavalent chromium. Exiguobacterium sp. ZM-2 could resist 12.37 mM of potassium chromate. The isolate was also found resistant to other heavy metal ions. Exiguobacterium sp. ZM-2 was able to reduce 500 microM hexavalent chromium completely within 56 h under in vitro conditions. BACKGROUND: Although white superficial onychomycosis (WSO) is well recognized in adults and considered to be mainly caused by Trichophyton mentagrophytes, childhood WSO is rare. WSO caused by Trichophyton rubrum in prepubertal children has never been reported.
OBJECTIVE: Our purpose was to describe the existence of WSO in children and to emphasize that T. rubrum may be its main cause.

Amiodarone-induced thyrotoxicosis (AIT) occurs both in abnormal thyroid glands (nodular goiter, latent Graves' disease) (type I AIT) or in apparently normal thyroid glands (type II AIT). Few of the many dentist-applied treatments for dentine hypersensitivity meet the requirements of an ideal desensitizing agent'. This paper, although not exhaustive, covers methods that may be classified from simplest to most complex.
