It has been difficult to establish a strict treatment program for ACC, and better treatment alternatives and diagnostic tools must be sought. Primary aldosteronism consists of a mixture of subgroups. The operative treatment is successful only in cases of aldosterone-producing neoplasia (and in rare cases of primary unilateral hyperplasia); all other cases should be treated medically. The effect of corticosteroids (Dexamethasone) on hepatitis B virus was investigated in human hepatoblastoma cells stable transfected with recombinant HBV DNA. Dexamethasone was found to cause elevation of HBsAg, HBeAg and viral DNA production. HBV poly(A)+ RNA was significantly increased in cells treated with Dexamethasone. Furthermore, pulse labelled nuclear HBV RNA was also stimulated by Dexamethasone. These findings, suggest that corticosteroids enhance expression of viral gene products by stimulating HBV transcription.

Twelve cases of interstitial pneumonitis were seen in 50 patients (24%) treated with cyclophosphamide, methotrexate, and etoposide (VP-16-213) for small cell anaplastic lung cancer. A novel glycopeptide has been isolated from human and porcine pituitary glands. This substance is the amino-terminal fragment of pro-opiomelanocortin (POMC). The complete amino acid sequence has been determined. When tested for its steroid stimulating activity on an aldosterone secreting human adrenocortical adenoma, it was found to be more potent than angiotensin and ACTH. These results raise the interesting possibility that primary hyperaldosteronism could be related to a pituitary adrenal dysfunction.

INTRODUCTION/OBJECTIVE: Patients with connective tissue disease-associated interstitial lung disease (CTD-ILD) have an increased risk of developing lung cancer (LC).This study investigated whether non-receipt of immunosuppressive therapy is associated with LC risk in CTD-ILD patients and identified associated risk factors.
