Olopatadine hydrochloride (olopatadine, 11-[(Z)-3-(dimethylamino)propylidene]-6,11-dihydrodibenz[b,e]oxepin-2-acetic acid monohydrochloride) is a novel antiallergic/histamine H1-receptor antagonistic drug that was synthesized and evaluated in our laboratories. Herpes zoster of the trigeminal nerve is a disease that often challenges dentists and dental specialists trying to make the proper diagnosis, as many ulcerative and vesiculobullous diseases of the mouth have a similar clinical appearance. We report a clinical case in which a 27-year-old patient sought care for this vesicular lesion. Included are the differential diagnosis and treatment modalities that we used to diagnose the disease. A clinical pathologic conference is provided to highlight the appropriate courses of action in the management of herpes zoster.

OBJECTIVE: To characterize the clinical features of patients who have autoantibodies against transfer RNA (tRNA) or tRNA-associated proteins.
METHODS: Sera from 1,472 patients with suspected systemic rheumatic disease were screened by RNA immunoprecipitation of HeLa cell extracts. The specificities of the antibodies that precipitated tRNAs were further analyzed by immunoprecipitation using deproteinized RNAs and 35S-methionine-labeled HeLa cell extracts, followed by immunoblotting.

BACKGROUND: Subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus (SCLE), a distinct clinical subset of lupus erythematosus, remains a therapeutic challenge, especially in cases resistant to topical and standard systemic therapy. Leflunomide, a novel antirheumatic drug, has shown efficacy in the treatment of systemic lupus erythematosus in pilot studies.

The conditions of complex aphthosis, EM, MMP, and the VVG variant of erosive oral LP may be confused by clinicians who refer patients for diagnosis and management of BD (Table 8). The mucocutaneous presentations or the presence of complex aphthosis, the hallmark of BD, can be confusing and lead to the referral of the patient for a diagnosis of BD. The astute clinician evaluating patients for BD considers pseudo-BD in the differential diagnosis of the mucocutaneous manifestations of BD.
