PURPOSE: The main objectives of enucleation, evisceration or secondary orbital implants are to replace orbital volume and obtain good motility and adaptation of the implant and the external prosthesis. We describe our experience using autologous dermis graft sutured to Tenon and conjunctiva following evisceration, enucleation and any reconstruction requiring either a primary or secondary orbital implant, even those with large tissue loss.

BACKGROUND: Xeroderma pigmentosum is a rare autosomal recessive disorder characterized by hypersensitivity to ultraviolet light owing to mutation of nucleotide excision repair genes. Cutaneous and ocular malignancies commonly occur in the first decade of life in patients with xeroderma pigmentosum. Squamous cell carcinoma is the most common ocular malignancy in xeroderma pigmentosum. This case report aims to highlight that ocular malignancy can occur as early as the first few years of age in xeroderma pigmentosum, and the malignancies can progress rapidly unless early intervention is made.

PURPOSE: To investigate the epidemiology of squamous cell dysplasia and carcinoma of the conjunctiva in Denmark.
METHODS: Review of the histopathological case reports at the Eye Pathology Institute (EPI), University of Copenhagen, and the National Danish Pathology Bank from 1980 to 2011. Information regarding distribution of age and sex, localization, earlier pathology, comorbidity and recurrence of the condition was registered. PURPOSE: To evaluate the long-term efficacy and safety of endoresection for high posterior choroidal melanoma.
METHODS: Retrospective nonrandomized interventional case series. Forty-one patients had endoresection as primary treatment for posterior choroidal melanoma. Of these, 21 patients had adjuvant brachytherapy. The inclusion criteria were tumor thickness ≥8 mm, base diameter <15 mm, and posterior tumors not extending anterior to the equator. Main outcomes measures were enucleation rate, visual outcome, surgical complications, local recurrence, metastasis, and mortality.

In an eight-year period (1983-1990) approximately 500 fine needle aspiration biopsies (FNABs) of eye lesions were processed in our laboratory. PURPOSE: Open globe injuries (OGIs) are categorized by zone, with zone 3 (Z3) comprising wounds > 5 mm beyond the limbus. Outcomes of Z3 OGIs are highly heterogeneous. Open globe injuries with far posterior Z3 (pZ3) wounds were hypothesized to have worse visual and anatomic outcomes.
