OBJECTIVES: To report potential lifestyle risk factors and their association with hand eczema.
PATIENTS/MATERIALS/METHODS: Cross-sectional questionnaire survey and standard patch test among Swedish upper secondary school children. The participation rate was 81% (6095/7543) for the questionnaire and 59% (4439/7543) for the test.

OBJECTIVES: We assessed the impact of transthoracic endoscopic sympathectomy (TES) on the quality of life of patients with palmar hyperhydrosis.
DESIGN: A retrospective questionnaire based study.
METHODS: Patients undergoing TES at our institution between 1997 and 2002 received a SF-36 quality of life postal questionnaire. The pre- and post-operative symptoms were assessed. Statistical analysis was by means of the Student's t test.
RESULTS: Ninety-four TES were carried out in 62 patients. Forty-one cases were female. The age range was 17-64 years. The mean follow-up period was 38.46 months.

We report 2 cases of allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) to proparacaine and tetracaine. Patient 1 is an ophthalmologist with chronic finger pad dermatitis sensitized to the topical anesthetic proparacaine. Despite discontinuance of proparacaine and substitution with a patch test negative agent, tetracaine, his hand dermatitis persisted. The aims of this study were to analyze the change in trend of allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) from nickel in a single tertiary referral centre. In 1982 and 1997, 800 and 860 patients were patch tested, respectively. The frequency of positive reactions to nickel from our centre was 16% in 1982 and 22% in 1997.
