Optimizing Web Links Used in Digital Vaccination Invitations to Raise Trust and Booking Intention: 3 Online Randomized Controlled Trials.

BACKGROUND: People are encouraged to respond swiftly to digital health invitations, but they can be (rightly) skeptical about their legitimacy. OBJECTIVE: Drawing on digital communication theory and psychological science, we hypothesized that easy-to-read web links that facilitate participants' ability to identify the health organization as the website host would improve trust in and user engagement with digital communications. METHODS: In 3 double-blind, randomized online experiments, adult UK residents were recruited via the online platform Prolific (experiment 1: N1=569) or Qualtrics (exp

Locus-Coeruleus Norepinephrine Functioning as a Predictor of Childhood Mental Health (LOCUS-MENTAL): Protocol for a Longitudinal Study.

BACKGROUND: Mental health disorders (MHDs) remain a leading cause of the global burden of diseases. Early identification of neurobiological mechanisms mediating a risk for MHDs is key to reducing a lifetime burden. Recent findings emphasize the locus coeruleus-norepinephrine (LC-NE) system as a neuromodulator of arousal translating acute stress responses into neuronal excitability. We propose that individual differences in LC-NE functioning can explain a differential susceptibility to psychological adversity, which mediates the development of transdiagnostic psychopathology in early childhood.

Telehealth-Plus-mHealth Intervention for Young Adults With Cannabis Use Disorder: Protocol for a Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: More than 5 million young adults in the United States meet criteria for cannabis use disorder (CUD), placing them at risk for adverse physical, psychiatric, and social outcomes. Most individuals with CUD do not receive treatment due to numerous barriers, including motivation, stigma, limited availability and accessibility of developmentally appropriate services, and competing demands for time and finances. A novel digital health intervention, Momentary Self-Monitoring and Feedback + Motivational Enhancement Therapy-Virtual (MOMENT-V), was developed and combines telehealth motivatio

Impact of Shift Work and Job Category on Lifestyle Factors and Readiness to Change Among Hospital Workers: A Case-Control Study.

BACKGROUND: Shift work is essential in health care because of the need for 24-hour services but it is associated with adverse health outcomes, including disrupted circadian rhythms, poor sleep, unhealthy dietary habits, and increased stress. These effects may differ across job categories, such as nursing officers and hospital support staff, owing to varying physical and psychological demands. Limited research exists on how shift work impacts these groups differently, particularly regarding readiness to change unhealthy lifestyle behaviors. OBJECTIVES: This study aims to assess and compare lif

Preadolescent behavior problems after prenatal cocaine exposure: Relationship between teacher and caretaker ratings (Maternal Lifestyle Study).

BACKGROUND: We previously reported an association between prenatal cocaine exposure (PCE) and childhood behavior problems as observed by the parent or caretaker. However, these behavior problems may not manifest in a structured environment, such as a school setting. OBJECTIVE: We determined whether there is an association between PCE and school behavior problems and whether ratings of behavior problems from the teacher differ from those noted by the parent or caretaker. METHODS: The Maternal Lifestyle Study, a multicenter study, enrolled 1388 children with and without PCE at one month of age

Blurred Boundaries at the Bedside: Reframing Problematic Smartphone Use as an Ethical and Organisational Challenge in Nursing Practice.

AIM: To critically examine problematic smartphone use in clinical nursing practice and to reframe it as an ethical, organisational and leadership challenge requiring system-level governance rather than individual behavioural regulation. DESIGN: Position paper. METHODS: A narrative, evidence-informed synthesis was undertaken using a structured search of CINAHL, MEDLINE via PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science, supplemented by Google Scholar and purposive identification of professional, regulatory and governance sources. The original search was conducted on 12 April 2026, and a structured evidenc

Impact of primary and recurrent genital herpes on the quality of life of young people and adults: a mixed methods systematic review.

OBJECTIVE: This review sought to identify the experiences of persons living with genital herpes and what interventions improve the health-related quality of life of young people and adults with primary or recurrent genital herpes. INTRODUCTION: Genital herpes is commonly associated with psychosocial challenges. However, a growing body of evidence suggests that its impact can be ameliorated through pharmacological and psychosocial interventions. INCLUSION CRITERIA: This review considered English- and German-language studies of community-dwelling males and females, of any ethnicity and geograp

Self-harm and overcrowding among prisoners in Geneva, Switzerland.

PURPOSE: Prison institutional conditions affect risk for self-harm among detainees. In particular, prison overcrowding may increase the likelihood of self-harm by creating competition for resources, space, and enhancing a "deprivation state." The purpose of this paper is to examine the association between overcrowding and prisoner acts of self-harm. DESIGN/METHODOLOGY/APPROACH: This cross-sectional study took place at Geneva's pre-trial prison (capacity:376) between 2006 and 2014. Outcomes were acts of self-harm that required medical attention, and self-strangulation/hanging events (combined

[Etiological factors of generalized anxiety disorder].

Generalized Anxiety disorder (GAD) is a widespread psychiatric syndrome involving significant consequences on people's health. However, recent data show that this disorder has received little attention when compared to other anxiety disorders. A review of the publication on GAD also stated that the majority of research has been conducted on descriptive issues, whereas etiological factors received lower rates of publication. This may be explained by the fact that changes in the conceptualization of GAD slowed down the progression of researches focussing on the identification of factors implicat

A process for developing community consensus regarding the diagnosis and management of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder.

There remain large discrepancies between pediatricians' practice patterns and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) guidelines for the assessment and treatment of children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Several studies raise additional concerns about access to ADHD treatment for girls, blacks, and poorer individuals. Barriers may occur at multiple levels, including identification and referral by school personnel, parents' help-seeking behavior, diagnosis by the medical provider, treatment decisions, and acceptance of treatment. Such findings confirm the importance of

The Impact of Preoperative Anxiety on the Incidence of Arthrogenic Muscle Inhibition After Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction.

BACKGROUND: A patient's psychological state plays an important role in the functional outcome of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. The outcome can be impaired by arthrogenic muscle inhibition (AMI), which is a potentially severe complication after ACL reconstruction. It is better to identify patients at risk of AMI to provide appropriate management. PURPOSE/HYPOTHESIS: The goal of this study was to evaluate the impact of preoperative anxiety on the incidence of AMI at 21 days after ACL reconstruction. It was hypothesized that patients with high preoperative anxiety would more f

Integrating Sperm Microscopy, Environmental Exposures, and Lifestyle Factors for Male Fertility Analysis: Protocol for the Nippon Semen and Environmental Exposure Database (N-SEED) Cross-Sectional Study.

BACKGROUND: Conventional semen analysis does not fully capture male reproductive potential. The sperm DNA fragmentation index (DFI) may detect latent infertility, although the sperm chromatin structure assay (SCSA) is costly and technically demanding. Image-based analysis of semen microscopy, including artificial intelligence (AI), may enable lower-cost noninvasive assessment. However, progress is limited by a lack of standardized multimodal datasets linking sperm images with the DFI and relevant covariates. OBJECTIVE: This protocol describes the initial phase of the Nippon Semen and Environm

Trust As the Foundation for Informed Decision-Making in Prenatal Genetic Screening and Diagnostic Testing: A Qualitative Study.

BACKGROUND: Prenatal genetic screening and diagnostic testing (PS&D) requires pregnant patients to make time-sensitive, high-stakes decisions that often involve multifaceted risk assessments and deeply personal values. These decisions are becoming increasingly complex as the clinical integration of new genomic science and technologies advances alongside parallel changes in maternal-foetal medicine, neonatology, and reproductive health services. Despite these changes, there is limited guidance on how best to prepare patients to formulate PS&D decisions with significant implications for obstetri

Meta-analysis of cognitive behaviour therapy and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors for the treatment of hypochondriasis: Implications for trial design.

BACKGROUND: Classification of hypochondriasis as an obsessive-compulsive and related disorder in the International Classification of Diseases 11th Revision (ICD-11) has generated new heuristics for treatment of this common, chronic and disabling disorder. Standard treatment involves cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) or selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), but no meta-analysis has so far considered hypochondriasis as a structured diagnosis or assessed the role of medication. A clearer understanding of the relative effectiveness of these interventions and identification of clinically

[Ambivalence, control, support. Caring for the elderly patient at a "good enough" distance].

OBJECTIVES: In the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, visits by relatives to Nursing Homes for the Elderly (EHPAD) and Long-Term Care Units (USLD) have been severely restricted or even prohibited in order to protect the residents and patients, especially the most vulnerable among them. This situation has revived the debate around the place and role of the relational entourage in caring for the elderly. The relevance of family ties in supporting the narcissistic and objectal cathexis of the elderly has thus gained recognition. There is, however, the risk of an emerging form of uniformization and id

Practical considerations for the evaluation and management of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in adults.

Attention deficit with or without hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is one of the most frequent neuropsychiatric disorders, and affects 2-4% of adults. In contrast with many European countries, the identification and management of adult ADHD remains underdeveloped in France, and a subject of controversy. This review provides a practical update on current knowledge about ADHD in adults for French-speaking professionals who have to detect or manage adult patients with ADHD. ADHD is classified as a neurodevelopmental disorder in the recent update of the international diagnostic classification. While

Implementing routine assessment of perinatal anxiety: case studies.

BACKGROUND: During pregnancy and the first postnatal year, a substantial proportion of women experience perinatal anxiety, which is associated with increased risk of adverse birth, maternal and child development outcomes. Identification of perinatal anxiety is recommended in various countries, but there is a lack of consensus on the most effective, acceptable and feasible measure to use. The Methods of Assessing Perinatal Anxiety study previously found the Stirling Antenatal Anxiety Scale to be diagnostically accurate and acceptable to women. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to determine the acce
