PURPOSE: To develop a new, sutureless intrascleral intraocular lens (IOL) fixation technique based on the Yamane double-needle and Canabrava 4-flanged techniques.
METHODS: The Fusion-Flanged technique involves using a 7-0 polypropylene suture loop threaded through the eyelets of the IOL. Afterward, both ends of the suture are passed outside the eye through a 27-gauge needle. This technique creates a single flange by joining the 2 suture ends through handheld cautery, and this flange is then embedded into the scleral tunnel to securely fix the IOL in place.

The lens epithelial cells of A and E type are involved in pathogenesis of posterior capsule opacification (PCO). They undergo metaplasia into microfibroblasts, then migrate towards posterior capsule where they proliferate and form opacification. These processes are stimulated by cytokines and interleukines. The extracellular matrix which constitutes a scaffold for migration and attachment of epithelial cells plays an important role in PCO formation. Integrines intercede in this process.

The visual outcome and extent of aphakic spectacle use at community level was evaluated in 177 patients who underwent ICCE in peripheral camps. In 16.9%, both eyes were operated.
