Nonstereotyped responding in positive schizotypy after a single dose of levodopa.

Stereotyped behavior and left-sided orientation biases, associated with the dopamine (DA) system, were observed in populations of the schizophrenia spectrum disorders. We investigated whether heightened DA concentrations influence both side biases and stereotyped responding in a visuo-motor computer task, in which 90, 180, and 270 degrees rotated objects had to be brought into a target position. To account for the role of the schizophrenia spectrum, task performance was also analyzed as a function of healthy participants' high or low magical ideation (MI), a positive schizotypal feature. Double-blind comparison of citalopram and placebo in depressed outpatients with melancholia.

This multicenter study compared the efficacy and safety of citalopram and placebo in a population of moderately to severely depressed patients with melancholia. This randomized, double-blind, parallel-group study compared citalopram (flexible dose; 20-80 mg/day) with placebo in 180 psychiatric outpatients with a DSM-III diagnosis of major depression or bipolar disorder, depressed, who also met DSM-III criteria for melancholia. Following a 1-week placebo washout period, patients meeting study entry criteria were randomized to 4 weeks of double-blind treatment with either citalopram or placebo.

Neural processing of win-contingent audiovisual cues during virtual gambling: an fMRI cross-over study.

RATIONALE: Over the last 30 years, the global incidence and prevalence of gambling disorder (GD) have risen, with particularly high risk associated with slot machine gambling. Win-contingent audiovisual stimuli are considered a key mechanism that may promote risky decision-making during gambling. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to investigate whether win‑contingent audiovisual cues modulate risky decision-making and neural responses during a virtual slot-machine task in healthy volunteers. METHODS: In a randomized cross-over design, N = 20 right-handed healthy volunteers completed a virtual slo

Exploring the breadth of personal strengths used to overcome pain: A qualitative study of people living well with pain and people recovered from pain.

BACKGROUND: Understanding factors protective against musculoskeletal pain is key to strengths-based pain care. Protective factors have received limited examination and appear dominated by psychosocial factors. Exploration of factors influencing recovery from pain appears lacking. OBJECTIVES: To examine the breadth of protective factors via lived experiences of people living well with pain and people recovered from pain. DESIGN: Qualitative study. METHOD: Participants self-identifying as living well with pain, or recoverees, completed semi-structured interviews (online/face-to-face) driven b

Impact of obstructive sleep apnea on language development in Arabic-speaking children.

BACKGROUND: Pediatric Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) occurs during critical neurodevelopmental windows, often leading to deficits in attention and information processing. OSA is increasingly recognized as a condition associated with impaired language acquisition and highlights the necessity for early clinical language screening in this population. Thus, this study aimed to explore the impact of childhood OSA on language development in children aged 2 to 7.4 years. 41 native Arabic-speaking children diagnosed with OSA were evaluated. Assessments included clinical history, the Arabic Pediatric Sl

The embodied digital divide: how sensorimotor experience shapes touchscreen typing performance and strategy.

This study investigated how divergent sensorimotor experiences interact with task intention to influence touchscreen typing performance, kinematics, and strategy in smartphone users. Building on principles of motor learning and embodied cognition, we compared two generational cohorts: individuals whose sensorimotor development was primarily in the physical world, and those whose development occurred concurrently in both physical and digital environments. Participants typed the same sentences in two tasks: WhatsApp Chat (content generation) and Google Search (content consumption). 3D motion cap

Regret, uncertainty, and bounded rationality in norm-driven decisions.

This study introduces an agent-based model to examine how regret, uncertainty, and social norms interact to shape vaccination behavior during epidemics. The model integrates three behavioral mechanisms-anticipated regret, evolving norms, and uncertainty-dependent trust-within a unified learning framework. Grounded in psychology and behavioral economics, it captures how individuals make probabilistic choices influenced by material payoffs, fear, trust, and social approval. Simulations of the Susceptible-Infected-Recovered process show that choice precision has context-dependent effects. In the

Community Interventions for Addressing Postpartum Depression Across the United States: A Narrative Review.

Postpartum depression (PPD) is a common yet underdiagnosed mental health condition affecting a substantial proportion of new mothers in the United States. Its consequences can be severe, impacting maternal well-being, infant development, and family dynamics. PPD is particularly prevalent in underserved communities, where socioeconomic hardship, limited access to healthcare, cultural stigma, and systemic inequities intensify the risk. Addressing these disparities requires interventions that move beyond traditional clinical approaches and focus on the social, emotional, and environmental determi

How is EMDR best conducted and adapted for trauma-focused work within bipolar disorder? A Delphi study.

Background: Individuals with bipolar disorder are at increased risk of exposure to traumatic events and associated psychological distress, including affective, cognitive, physiological, and mood-related difficulties. Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) targets unprocessed trauma memory networks underlying these difficulties; however, guidance on adapting EMDR for this population is limited. This study aimed to establish practitioner consensus on adaptations to enhance the accessibility and effectiveness of EMDR for trauma in individuals with bipolar disorder. Methods: A three-r

A Multimodal Stimulation System for Conveying Diverse Feedback in Hand Prosthetics: Preliminary Assessment.

Artificial somatosensory feedback plays a crucial role in compensating for tactile and proprioceptive loss in prosthesis users. Although modern prosthetic systems can acquire rich sensory data, effectively conveying this multimodal information to the user remains a significant challenge. This study presents a wearable somatosensory feedback armband with two configurations: a multimodal version using combined vibrotactile-electrotactile (VEC) stimulation, and a unimodal version based on vibrotactile-only (VO) stimulation. In both configurations, proprioceptive feedback is conveyed via spatiotem

Transcultural Adaptation and Validation of the German DIGEST-FEES.

INTRODUCTION: Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) is one of two diagnostic gold standards for pharyngeal dysphagia in patients with head and neck cancer (HNC). However, an evidence-based summary outcome measure was missing until recently. The Dynamic Imaging Grade of Swallowing Toxicity (DIGEST) for FEES was adapted from DIGESTV2 for videofluoroscopy for this purpose and is a validated analysis method, grading the severity of pharyngeal dysphagia based on the swallowing parameters safety and efficiency. Main aim of this study was to translate and validate DIGEST-FEES into Germa

Parental burnout among military fathers: The moderating roles of unit support, marital satisfaction, and emotional regulation strategies.

OBJECTIVE: The military family stress model (Gewirtz et al., 2018) was used to examine the associations between deployment experiences, interpersonal relationships, and four aspects of parental burnout-emotional exhaustion, contrast in parental self, fed-up feelings, and emotional distancing from the child-among military fathers. The study focused on testing main and moderating effects for these variables. METHOD: A total of 105 Israeli military fathers deployed to combat zones completed self-report questionnaires on deployment exposure, emotion regulation, unit and spousal support, and paren

Characterizing Communication in Group Settings Following Traumatic Brain Injury: Development of the Multiparty Communication Questionnaire.

PURPOSE: Group, or multiparty, settings present a particularly challenging communication context for speakers, who must keep track of a myriad of interpersonal, informational, and contextual factors and then flexibly adjust their language to meet the needs of the group. While there are existing questionnaires to capture the well-documented communication disruptions that individuals with traumatic brain injury (TBI) experience in dyads, there are no measures of multiparty communication. We developed the Multiparty Communication Questionnaire (MCQ) and assessed whether individuals with TBI self-

Extensive perinephric hematoma following excessive irrigation pressure during flexible ureteroscopy: case report of a preventable complication.

BACKGROUND: Flexible ureteroscopy (fURS) is widely regarded as a safe and effective procedure for the management of urolithiasis. Nevertheless, inadequate management of intrarenal pressure during fURS represents an underrecognized patient safety hazard. The use of high-pressure irrigation to compensate for poor visualization—particularly when outflow is restricted—may expose patients to prolonged supraphysiologic intrarenal pressure and preventable harm. I report a severe pressure-related renal injury following fURS and analyze the event using a human factors and systems-based root cause analy

Lasting Financial and Professional Impacts Among Survivors of Early-Onset Colorectal Cancer.

BACKGROUND: Patients with early-onset colorectal cancer (age < 50) are vulnerable to unique psychosocial consequences given their developmental stage in life. Younger adults are often establishing their careers and families, and a cancer diagnosis can contribute to financial and professional instability. However, the lived experiences of patients with early-onset colorectal cancer have largely been underexplored. OBJECTIVE: To characterize the financial and professional experiences of patients with early-onset colorectal cancer. DESIGN: Semistructured interviews with patients with early-onse
