Design and performance of AI agents interfacing with an atomic layer deposition tool.

In this work, we introduce the design of an atomic layer deposition (ALD) reactor augmented with an AI interface for autonomous materials synthesis. Our modular design encapsulates the particularities of the hardware behind a Python interface that communicates with the ALD control software via transmission control protocol. This interface is compatible with model context protocol interfaces used in agentic frameworks. We have integrated our tool with a simple AI agent that leverages a large language model to transform user-supplied queries into ALD processes that are then run in our reactor. O

Deep Learning Segmentation of Abdominal Organs Across Ultrasound, MRI, and CT: A Scoping Review of Modality-Specific Approaches and the Emerging Role of Foundation Models and LLM-Based Agents.

Segmentation of the liver, kidneys, and pancreas underpins volumetry, treatment planning, and disease monitoring across ultrasound (US), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and computed tomography (CT). Deep learning has advanced through four waves-convolutional networks, transformers, segmentation foundation models, and large language model (LLM)-based agents-but how performance differs across organs and modalities has not been synthesized in a segmentation-centric, modality-stratified way. Following scoping-review reporting guidance, we searched five databases for studies published 2020-2026 a

The Connectivity Fingerprints of Highly-Skilled and Disordered Reading Persist Across Cognitive Domains.

The capacity to produce and understand written language is a uniquely human skill that exists on a continuum, and foundational to other facets of human cognition. Multivariate classifiers based on support vector machines (SVM) have provided much insight into the networks underlying reading skill beyond what traditional univariate methods can tell us. Shallow models like SVM require large amounts of data, and this problem is compounded when functional connections, which increase exponentially with network size, are predictors of interest. Data reduction using independent component analyses (ICA

Characterization of human T cell receptor repertoire data in eight thymus samples and four related blood samples.

T cell receptor (TCR) is a heterodimer consisting of TCRα and TCRβ chains that are generated by somatic recombination of multiple gene segments. Nascent TCR repertoire undergoes thymic selections where non-functional and potentially autoreactive receptors are removed. During the last years, the development of high-throughput sequencing technology has allowed a large scale assessment of TCR repertoire and multiple analysis tools are now also available. In our recent manuscript, Human thymic T cell repertoire is imprinted with strong convergence to shared sequences[1], we show highly overlapping

Genetic and environmental influences on orthographic and phonological skills in children with reading disabilities.

Data from identical and fraternal twins were analyzed to estimate the proportions of genetic and environmental influences on group deficits in accuracy and, when available, speed for printed word recognition and for related skills in phonological decoding (PD), orthographic coding (OC), and phoneme awareness (PA). In addition, bivariate genetic analyses were employed to estimate the degree of common genetic influence on group deficits across these different reading and language skills. About half of the group deficits in each of the skills were due to genetic influences, and the genetic origin

Longitudinal Trajectories of Global and Domain-Specific Cognition After Stroke Using the Oxford Cognitive Screen.

BACKGROUND: Cognitive impairment is common after stroke and linked to poor outcomes, yet long-term recovery or decline, particularly across specific cognitive domains, remains unclear. Most studies use brief global screeners with short follow-up, limiting insight into recovery patterns. This study aimed to characterize domain-specific cognitive trajectories over ≥2 years poststroke and identify predictors of persistent impairment. METHODS: Participants were recruited at a regional acute stroke unit (John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, United Kingdom; 2012-2019) and assessed acutely, at 6 months,

Multimodal medical diagnosis: a mini review of LLM-vision fusion models in low-resource healthcare settings.

Recent advances in large language models (LLMs) and vision transformers have enabled multimodal systems that integrate clinical text with medical imaging for diagnostic decision-making. While these systems show promising results on benchmark datasets in well-resourced research settings, their applicability in low-resource healthcare environments where diagnostic disparities are most severe remains limited and poorly understood. This mini review synthesizes key developments in LLM-vision fusion architectures from 2018 to 2026, with a focus on radiology-oriented visual question answering (VQA) a…

An LLM-agent-based framework for calculating nodal carbon intensity in regional power systems.

Regional carbon-aware operation requires nodal carbon intensity (NCI) signals that remain valid under heterogeneous operational inputs, topology changes, and network congestion; however, existing workflows for carbon-flow tracing and marginal-emission analysis are still difficult to operationalize because data integration, model configuration, and result auditing rely heavily on manual intervention. This paper proposes a large language model (LLM)-agent-in-the-loop framework in which the language model is restricted to orchestration, while dispatch optimization, physical verification, and carb
