Virus antibody levels were studied in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of 58 patients with optic neuritis and 58 control patients with no indication of multiple sclerosis (MS) or infectious disorders of the central nervous system (CNS). Brucellosis is a zoonotic disease characterized by reproductive failure in animals and undulent fever in humans. In cattle, it is caused by Brucella abortus while in goats by Brucella melitensis, the main cause of brucellosis in humans. Brucellosis in livestock has been associated with importation of animals from breeder herd of unknown disease status. The prevalence of bovine brucellosis Brucella abortus in 2014 ranged between 1% and 2% in Thailand and Indonesia, and 4%-5% in Malaysia and Myanmar. Prevalence of goat brucellosis Brucella melitensis is approximately 1% in Malaysia and Thailand.

We evaluated the efficacy of buparvaquone in eliminating infection with Babesia equi of European origin in carrier horses and in splenectomized horses with experimentally induced acute infection. When administered at the rate of 5 mg/kg of body weight, IV, 4 times at 48-hour intervals, buparvaquone prompted rapid abatement of parasitemia. Seventy-six patients with clinically and histologically defined primary biliary cirrhosis, who were in stage I/II at the time of first diagnosis and could be followed for 6-18 years (mean 10 years), were analysed with respect to their clinical course. We have developed an indirect sandwich enzyme-lined immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for the detection of antibodies to Histoplasma ribosomes and histoplasmin; we used this test for demonstration of these antibodies in sera from proven cases of histoplasmosis and other infections. Serum dilutions from five negative controls used in each experiment were normalized against 50 normal sera, and a factor of the mean absorbance was used to establish a positive reaction. In a group of children with acute, nonstreptococcal pharyngitis, only one (2%) of the 44 children tested showed serologic or direct-immunofluorescence evidence of a recent Chlamydia trachomatis infection. Only two (5%) of the 43 children tested showed serologic evidence of a recent Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection. Neither C. trachomatis nor M. pneumoniae appears to be an important cause of acute pharyngitis in children.
