Determining the association between gender-related factors and the perception of exertional dyspnoea in healthy males and females.

The perception exertional dyspnoea is greater in females than males at absolute, but not relative, levels of minute ventilation (VE). The mechanisms of sex differences in exertional dyspnoea are unclear, but since dyspnoea perception is influenced by psychological, social, and cultural factors, it is possible that gender-related characteristics confound the assessment of sex differences in exertional dyspnoea. We sought to determine the association between gender-related characteristics and dyspnoea during exercise in males and females. Forty-six healthy adults (n=22 males, n=24 females) compl

War-related and minority-related stressors and posttraumatic stress symptoms among Palestinian Arab grandmothers in Israel: a resource-based mediation model.

BACKGROUND: Exposure to armed conflict is associated with elevated posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSS). Ethnic minority groups may also face minority-related stressors, such as discrimination and silencing, that compound psychological vulnerability. Conservation of resources theory suggests that loss of valued personal and social resources may help explain PTSS under prolonged adversity. Palestinian Arab grandmothers in Israel remain understudied despite central roles in multigenerational collectivist family systems, which may intensify during collective threat and heighten vulnerability to p

Bodies under stress-a psychological parallel mediation model between daily LGBTQ + heterosexism and eating disorder risk.

PURPOSE: LGBTQ + people have shown health disparities compared to heterosexual and cisgender people in eating disorders. How these disparities are determined, however, is an understudied area. Through the use of a psychological mediation framework, this study aims to explore how daily heterosexist experiences related to one's LGBTQ + identity may determine eating disorder risk. METHODS: 376 LGBTQ + people from Italy responded to self-report questionnaires regarding daily heterosexist experiences, eating behaviors and associated factors in an online anonymous survey. Descriptive, bivariate and

Development and Validation of a Risk-Prediction Nomogram for Nutritional Risk in Non-Dialysis Chronic Renal Failure Patients.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to develop and validate a risk prediction model for malnutrition in non-dialysis chronic renal failure (ND-CRF) patients, and to explore its status and influencing factors. METHODS: A total of 421 ND-CRF patients treated at a tertiary general hospital in Zhejiang Province from August 1, 2022, to September 30, 2023, were enrolled. By comparing various indicators between the malnutrition group (119 patients) and the normal nutrition group (302 patients), univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to identify influencing factors. Psychosocial Determinants of Mental Health in Older Adults Living With HIV: The Protective Role of Resilience Against Internalized Stigma.

Despite comprising nearly one in 10 people living with HIV (PLHIV) in Brazil, older adults aged 60 years and above remain profoundly underrepresented in psychosocial research. This multicenter study is the first age-restricted (≥ 60 years) subgroup analysis of the Brazilian PLHIV Stigma Index 2.0. The present secondary analysis yielded a sample of 138 older adults (M age = 64.3 years, SD = 4.1; 52.9% male; 57.2% Black or Brown). Path analysis with 5000-resample bootstrapping and full-information maximum likelihood estimation confirmed a statistically significant indirect effect of general stig

Depression among infertile women attending Gynecology Referral Clinics in West Arsi and Bale Zones hospitals, 2025.

The World Health Organization identifies infertility as a major public health issue, affecting about 17.5% of people globally. Depression among infertile women has bidirectional physiological, social, and economic effects. However, limited data exists in Ethiopia, where infertility is often linked to social discrimination. Investigating this issue is especially important in low-income countries. This study was aimed at assessing the prevalence of depression and its associated factors among infertile women attending Gynecology Referral Clinics in West Arsi, East Bale, and Bale Zone's hospitals

Navigating Through the Caregiving Trajectory: A Qualitative Interview Study on the Challenges Encountered by Primary Caregivers When Caring for Adolescents Living with HIV.

Background/Objectives: Children and adolescents living with HIV (ALHIV) are among the most vulnerable groups affected by HIV and AIDS. Their vulnerability exposes them to several challenges, such as HIV-related stigma and/or interrupted academic activities due to health-related complications. Since they are still minors who cannot independently make decisions regarding their own lives, most of the challenges extend to their caregivers, who sometimes provide care and support under difficult psychological, social, and economic conditions. This study aimed to explore the lived experiences and cha

Vascular and autonomic correlates of screening-positive depressive symptom burden in chronic atrophic gastritis: a multicenter observational study protocol.

BACKGROUND: Depressive symptoms are common in gastroenterology practice but often missed due to patient stigma and the limitations of self-report questionnaires. This detection gap limits patient access to necessary mental health care. Although vascular dysfunction has been associated with depressive symptoms, the role of accessible peripheral vascular and autonomic measures in relation to concurrent questionnaire-defined depressive symptom burden in gastroenterology settings remains insufficiently studied. This study aims to evaluate whether vascular and autonomic measures are associated with

Social Stigma Associated with COVID-19 in Healthcare Workers: A Concept Analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Despite the presence of "COVID-19-related social stigma" in health literature, there is no clear definition of this concept in healthcare setting. It is often confused with related terms such as shame, discrimination, and prejudice, leading to imprecise research questions and ineffective evaluations. The aim of this study was to elucidate the concept of social stigma associated with COVID-19 in healthcare workers using Rodgers' evolutionary concept analysis method. METHODS: Rodgers' evolutionary method of concept analysis was employed to clarify COVID-19-related social stigma in

Association Between Intersectional Stigma and Psychological Well-Being Among Men Who Have Sex with Men Living with HIV.

Men who have sex with men (MSM) living with HIV face considerable psychosocial challenges, including stigma and discrimination, which may affect their mental health. Instead of considering each stigmatized identity in isolation, this study investigated the association between intersected HIV- and MSM-related stigma and psychological well-being of MSM living with HIV. Data of 402 MSM living with HIV were collected through a cross-sectional study in Guangxi, China, focusing on the association between HIV-/MSM-related stigma and HIV-related health outcomes among MSM living with HIV. Construction and verification of a predictive model for depression risk of patients with somatization symptoms.

BACKGROUND: Patients with somatization symptoms are at elevated risk of depression, yet underdiagnosis persists due to cultural tendencies (e.g., in China) to express psychological distress via physical complaints. Existing predictive models lack integration of sociocultural and physiological factors, particularly in non-Western populations. OBJECTIVE: To develop a culturally tailored risk-prediction model for depression in patients with somatization symptoms, emphasizing early identification and personalized intervention. METHODS: A prospective cohort study included 200 somatization patient

Interoceptive patterns and alexithymia in adolescents with anorexia nervosa.

INTRODUCTION: Alexithymia is a central concept in understanding the psychological vulnerability to eating disorders. Associations between alexithymia and distinct components of interoception have previously been reported in healthy individuals and those with mental health problems. From a therapeutic perspective, it is important to determine whether such associations exist for adolescents with anorexia nervosa and which domains of interoception (i.e., accuracy [IAc], awareness [IAw], and sensibility [ISe]) are concerned. METHOD: A cross-sectional study was conducted on twenty 12-17-year-old h

Development and validation of a nomogram for sleep disorders among stroke patients.

BACKGROUND: Precisely identifying high-risk sleep disorder patients and implementing suitable measures are important for decreasing the incidence of sleep disorders. In this study, a nomogram method was adopted to construct a tool to predict sleep disorders in stroke based on four factors: individual characteristics, treatment-related factors, psychological factors, and family-related factors. METHODS: A total of 450 stroke patients were continuously diagnosed at the Affiliated Hospital of Nantong University, and the data on participants were randomly distributed into a training set (n = 315)

"My friends said they should no longer be with a b*tch like me…": A qualitative study to explore the consequences of adolescent childbearing among teen mothers in Gatsibo district, Rwanda.

In low and middle income countries (LMICs), the rate of teenage pregnancy continues to be high, with significant implications for maternal health. The prevalence of teenage pregnancy is worrisome in Rwanda, and little is known about the consequences faced by teen mothers aged 15-19. Therefore, the present study aims to explore the consequences of adolescent childbearing among teen mothers in Gatsibo district, Rwanda. A descriptive qualitative study design was carried out. We purposively recruited 20 teen mothers aged 15-19 from four health centers in Gatsibo district for in-depth interview. Co

Amygdala functional connectivity mediates the association between catastrophizing and threat-safety learning in youth with chronic pain.

There is a need to identify brain connectivity alterations predictive of transdiagnostic processes that may confer vulnerability for affective symptomology. Here, we tested whether amygdala resting-state functional connectivity (rsFC) mediated the relationship between catastrophizing (negative threat appraisals and predicting poorer functioning) and altered threat-safety discrimination learning (critical to flexibly adapt to new and changing environments) in adolescents with persistent pain. We examined amygdala rsFC in 46 youth with chronic pain and 29 healthy peers (age M = 15.8, SD = 2.9; 6

Public perceptions of predictive testing for rheumatoid arthritis compared to breast cancer and early-onset Alzheimer's disease: a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: There is increasing research focus on prediction and prevention of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Information about risk of RA is increasingly available via direct-to-consumer testing. However, there is limited understanding of public perceptions around predictive testing for RA. This study explores public perceptions of predictive testing for RA in comparison to breast cancer (BC) and early-onset Alzheimer's disease (AD). METHODS: Four focus groups with 21 members of the public were conducted using hypothetical vignettes about predictive testing for each disease. Transcripts of focus
