Segmentation and Estimation of Fetal Biometric Parameters using an Attention Gate Double U-Net with Guided Decoder Architecture.

The fetus's health is evaluated with the biometric parameters obtained from the low-resolution ultrasound images. The accuracy of biometric parameters in existing protocols typically depends on conventional image processing approaches and hence, is prone to error. This study introduces the Attention Gate Double U-Net with Guided Decoder (ADU-GD) model specifically crafted for fetal biometric parameter prediction. The attention network and guided decoder are specifically designed to dynamically merge local features with their global dependencies, enhancing the precision of parameter estimation.

Nested CNN architecture for three-dimensional dose distribution prediction in tomotherapy for prostate cancer.

BACKGROUND: The hypothesis of changing network layers to increase the accuracy of dose distribution prediction, instead of expanding their dimensions, which requires complex calculations, has been considered in our study. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 137 prostate cancer patients treated with the tomotherapy technique were categorized as 80% training and validating as well as 20% testing for the nested UNet and UNet architectures. Mean absolute error (MAE) was used to measure the dosimetry indices of dose-volume histograms (DVHs), and geometry indices, including the structural similarity

PGCNMDA: Learning node representations along paths with graph convolutional network for predicting miRNA-disease associations.

Identifying miRNA-disease associations (MDAs) is crucial for improving the diagnosis and treatment of various diseases. However, biological experiments can be time-consuming and expensive. To overcome these challenges, computational approaches have been developed, with Graph Convolutional Network (GCN) showing promising results in MDA prediction. The success of GCN-based methods relies on learning a meaningful spatial operator to extract effective node feature representations. To enhance the inference of MDAs, we propose a novel method called PGCNMDA, which employs graph convolutional networks

Retinal structure guidance-and-adaption network for early Parkinson's disease recognition based on OCT images.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a leading neurodegenerative disease globally. Precise and objective PD diagnosis is significant for early intervention and treatment. Recent studies have shown significant correlations between retinal structure information and PD based on optical coherence tomography (OCT) images, providing another potential means for early PD recognition. However, how to exploit the retinal structure information (e.g., thickness and mean intensity) from different retinal layers to improve PD recognition performance has not been studied before. Motivated by the above observations, w

Analog Spiking U-Net integrating CBAM&ViT for medical image segmentation.

SNNs are gaining popularity in AI research as a low-power alternative in deep learning due to their sparse properties and biological interpretability. Using SNNs for dense prediction tasks is becoming an important research area. In this paper, we firstly proposed a novel modification on the conventional Spiking U-Net architecture by adjusting the firing positions of neurons. The modified network model, named Analog Spiking U-Net (AS U-Net), is capable of incorporating the Convolutional Block Attention Module (CBAM) into the domain of SNNs. This is the first successful implementation of CBAM in

Automatic classification of acute lymphoblastic leukemia cells and lymphocyte subtypes based on a novel convolutional neural network.

Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is a life-threatening disease that commonly affects children and is classified into three subtypes: L1, L2, and L3. Traditionally, ALL is diagnosed through morphological analysis, involving the examination of blood and bone marrow smears by pathologists. However, this manual process is time-consuming, laborious, and prone to errors. Moreover, the significant morphological similarity between ALL and various lymphocyte subtypes, such as normal, atypic, and reactive lymphocytes, further complicates the feature extraction and detection process. The aim of this st

Distinguishing the Uterine Artery, the Ureter, and Nerves in Laparoscopic Surgical Images Using Ensembles of Binary Semantic Segmentation Networks.

Performing a minimally invasive surgery comes with a significant advantage regarding rehabilitating the patient after the operation. But it also causes difficulties, mainly for the surgeon or expert who performs the surgical intervention, since only visual information is available and they cannot use their tactile senses during keyhole surgeries. This is the case with laparoscopic hysterectomy since some organs are also difficult to distinguish based on visual information, making laparoscope-based hysterectomy challenging. In this paper, we propose a solution based on semantic segmentation, wh

Utilising redundancy in musculoskeletal systems for adaptive stiffness and muscle failure compensation: a model-free inverse statics approach.

Vertebrates possess a biomechanical structure with redundant muscles, enabling adaptability in uncertain and complex environments. Harnessing this inspiration, musculoskeletal systems offer advantages like variable stiffness and resilience to actuator failure and fatigue. Despite their potential, the complex structure presents modelling challenges that are difficult to explicitly formulate and control. This difficulty arises from the need for comprehensive knowledge of the musculoskeletal system, including details such as muscle arrangement, and fully accessible muscle and joint states. Whilst
