Call for a More Specific Diagnosis of Infant of a Diabetic Mother to Optimize Neonatal Care.

Hyperglycemia is the diagnostic feature of diabetes mellitus (DM), and during pregnancy, hyperglycemia has numerous serious implications for organogenesis and fetal growth. Each type of DM has different neonatal implications based on pathogenesis, length of disease, and comorbidities. Currently, limited attention is given to the woman's type of DM when evaluating risks for neonates. The diagnosis of infant of a diabetic mother is not sufficient because of the varying pathophysiology of diabetes classifications and associated neonatal outcomes. By expanding the diagnosis to include the woman's

Call for Improved Fourth Trimester Care After Stillbirth.

Women who experience stillbirths are at increased risk for severe maternal morbidity and mortality, which makes the postpartum period a critical time in which to address health conditions and prevent complications. However, research on the health care needs of women who experience stillbirths is scarce, and these women are often excluded from research on the postpartum period. Therefore, the purpose of this commentary is to identify gaps in the research on postpartum care after stillbirth, explain why current fourth trimester care guidelines in the United States are inadequate, and advocate fo

I review background information describing birth companions' perceptions of childbirth as traumatic and the implications of birth trauma. I then present protective nursing strategies before, during, and after birth, followed by a discussion on imp

Because microaggression is an all-encompassing term, we included articles that used keywords such as "racism," "prejudice," and/or "discrimination" because these terms are precursors to and touch on aspects of microaggression. We also include
