PURPOSE: To evaluate the early to mid-term clinical and radiological outcomes of trapeziectomy with a tendon tie-in trapezium implant arthroplasty for moderate to severe trapeziometacarpal (TMC) joint osteoarthritis (Eaton stages III to IV).

HYPOTHESIS: In patients with a rotator cuff-deficient shoulder, a combined loss of active elevation and external rotation (CLEER) can occur when both the infraspinatus and teres minor muscles are absent. A reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA) can restore active elevation in these patients but cannot restore active external rotation because there are no other external rotator cuff muscles. We hypothesized that a modified L'Episcopo procedure (latissimus dorsi [LD] and teres major [TM] transfer) with a simultaneous RSA would restore shoulder function and activities of daily living (ADLs).

OBJECTIVE: To report preliminary experience on the Camitz operation for elderly Chinese patients in a Hong Kong public hospital.
DESIGN: Retrospective study.
SETTING: Tertiary referral hospital with hand surgery service in Hong Kong.
PATIENTS: Between January 2000 and January 2004, patients with carpal tunnel syndrome having the Camitz operation were recruited. They were assessed using the measurements of pinch and grip power, sensation, the Kapandji score, and functional grading as well as complications encountered during the subsequent follow-up.

At the university hospital of emergency surgery in Innsburck and at the emergency services department of the hospital in Schwaz, anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction was performed in 467 patients between January 1992 and September 1993. Forty-four patients with symptomatic chronic anterior cruciate ligament instabilities that had been reconstructed with the central one-third patellar tendon and a lateral extraarticular iliotibial band tenodesis were studied at an average followup of 7 years (range, 4 to 10). Sixty-one idiopathic clubfeet in 46 patients of an older population were treated by one-stage posteromedial release. Follow-up roentgenograms revealed dorsal subluxation of the tarsal navicular in 43% of the clubfeet. This abnormality is probably due to both closed manipulation and casting, and improper positioning of the navicular during posteromedial release. Press-fit fixation of patellar tendon bone anterior cruciate ligament autografts is an interesting technique because no hardware is necessary to achieve fixation. Up till the present point, there is no biomechanical data available for the tibial press-fit fixation of the hamstring tendons. Hamstring tendons of 21 human cadavers (age: 41.9 +/- 13.1 years) were used. A press-fit fixation with looped semitendinosus and gracilis tendons secured by a tape (T) over a bone bridge, or by a baseball-stitched suture (S), was compared with degradable interference screw fixation (I) in 21 porcine tibiae.

In cerebral palsy patients, surgical treatment procedures of the upper extremity have an important place in the concept of multidisciplinary care.
